Schjos- ser, president emeritus. Dr. Schlosser, who has been affiliated with the col- lege for more than 65 years, began the project two years ago at the request of Presi- dent Morley J. Mays. The Auxiliary underwrote the cost of publication. The reception was held in the lounge of the Schlosser Residence for Women from 3 to 5 p.m. and members of the Auxiliary, faculty and admin- istrators, trustees, the Alum- ni Council and persons from the community were invited. Officially entitled, “The History of Elizabethtown Col- lege 1899-1970,” the Schlos- ser work traces the develop- ment of the college from sev- eral preliminary meetings in 1898 through the administra- tions of the College's 10 principals or presidents. For almost all of these years, Dr. Schlosser was a participant, having begun his personal association with the institution as a student in the spring of 1905. He later became an instruc- tor, dean of instruction, and president, finally returning to the class again in 1961. He became president emeritus in 1962 and retired from an active role in campus affairs “in June, 190. Despite this close associa- tion, however, he did pain- staking research, combing the files of the student newspaper & yearbook, trustee minutes, alumni records, and college publications for detailed in- formation. He also conducted interviews. The account of the for- mation of the college is a highlight of the fully-illustra- ted, 384 - page, hard-cover book. Interestingly, the Breth- ren churchmen who individ- ually acted to found an insti- tution of higher education al- most chose Ephrata and they decided, for one night at least, that its name ought to be Conestoga college.
