Ninth Grade to Have Washington Trip MANHEIM CENTRAL TO UNDERWRITE $1,500 OUTING The Manheim Central School Board agreed Friday to underwrite the cost of a trip to Washington in the Spring for the ninth grade. The tab would be about $1,- 500. “The board had originally . intended to assess each of the 300-plus students involved $5 to cover expenses of the trip. However, under terras of a new school trip policy cur- © rently being written, the board chose to handle the cost itself. Some board members ex- pressed concern that the move would obligate the dis- trict to underwrite school trips in the future. It was ag- reed, however, that future underwritings would be bas- ed on how educational the Spring trip actually turns out to be. The board agreed to have chaperones on this Spring's trip evaluate the educational value of the trip. In other business, the board announced . it is sending to each home in the district a list . of qualifications for fam- ilies entitled to free school lunches under the federal re- quired free lunch policy. The board said that, while some 95 per cent of district students entitled to free lun- ches are getting them, there are some families who prob- ably don’t know they qualify for the program. In its annual reorganiza- tion, the board re-elected Richard E. Hoffman as presi- dent and Nelson Hershey as vice president.
