Bruce Kline was given permission to continue hold- ing a “moonlight” job. Vote followed recommenda- tion by Mayor Henry Zerphey that such action be taken. Permission, however, is sub- ject to recall in case the cir- cumstances warrant, council stated. Several months ago council frowned upon Kline's holding of an additional job as chief of police of Mount Joy and gave him notice to drop his “moonlight” employment. However postponements were given and the first of this year the mayor, who had ta- ken office and asked for time to study the situation, asked for an additional six months stay. Monday night Zerphey re- ported to council that the po- lice department is function- ing smoothly and efficiently with the local office and is available for service to the community where his princi- pal employment rests. The public safety commit- tee reported that it feels that the best interest of he com- muniy would be served by accepting the Mayor’s recom- mendation. In other business Monday night, council accepted five bids for the rebuilding of Walnut street and accepted the proposal of B. R. Kreider and Son, Manheim. The suc- cessful bid, approved by the borough engineer, was for $5,542, approximately $1,300 under the highest of the pro- posals. Work is expected to begin within about 60 days. Council accepted the regis- nation from the Board of Health of Clyde Brill who has served 18 years. He has been secretary of the board. The Sen- ate had not adopted the Housebill but there appeared hope that such a step would be taken this week — or at least shortly.
