The presentation was made by the artist, Paul Calle, at the annual luncheon of the Independent Telephone Pioneers Asso- ciation, held in conjunction with the United States Independent Telephone Association convention in Washington, D.C. Mr. Calle is the designer of the Apollo moon stamp issued September 9. ._. . the most historic telephone call ever made,” were words used by President Nixon during his epic conversation with lunar astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin. The drawing commissioned by the Elgin Electronics subsidiary of Basic Incorporated is the interpretation of this call as conceived by_Mr. Calle. The annual Halloween parade of the Maytown Ele- mentary School was held last Friday afternoon fol- lowing the judging of cos- tumes in the auditorium. They were judged in four categories — prettiest, funni- est, ugliest and most origin- al. One in each category is chosen from each room. The groups assemble on the stage for the judges to choose the winners for the grand prize. The following were the winners from grades 1, 2, 3; Prettiest, Beth Prowell, grade 2, room 6B; Ugliest, Mark Earhart. grade 2. room 6B; Funniest, Paul Kunkle, grade 1, room 2A and the Most original, Joey Gilmartin, grade 1, room 3A. From grades 4, 5, 6 the following were chosen: Pret- tiest, Deanna Grimm, grade 6, room 4; Ugliest, Harlan Haakse, grade 6 room 12; Funniest, Robin ‘Gerber, grade 4, room 7 and the most original, Margie Endslow, grade 4, room 10. Mrs. Robert Gibble and Mrs. Gerald Lindemuth were in charge of this program. The judges were Mrs. John Harnish, Mrs. Herbert Sarver and Miss Grace Henderson. Parties were held in each home room following the parade and judging. Hep Houseal was on the sick list last week. All Saints’ Day was o0b- served in St. John’s Luther- an church last Sunday morn- ing. This is a day set aside to the memory of the mem- bers who passed away dur- ing the year. However Nov. 1 was actually All Saints’ Day. The Lay Life and Youth committee of the United Church of Christ entertained members of the Women’s Guild of the Marietta United Church of Christ last Sun- day evening. Pastor Grau- berger showed slides of church work in Central Am- erica and refreshments were served. Mrs. Frank Snavely, High- spire, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ka- noff. Gregg Embly celebrated his 3rd birthday anniversary October 25. Edgar Mayers celebrated his birthday anniversary on October 21. Ten Brownies Are Invested Brownie Troop 1123 Mt. Joy, held an investiture cere- mony for 10 members Wed- nesday, Oct. 29 at St. Mark’s United Methodist church. Girls who were invested are: Tracee Gotwalt, Ann Heisey, Lori Thomas, Amy Elvin, Colleen Brubaker, Lisa Lucabaugh, Angel Secrest, Laura Schwert, Cindy Dis- singer, and Tammy Stephens. The girls received a pen and made the two-fold brown- ie promise pledging loyalty to God and country and to be helpful to others every- day. The second year brownies reaffirming their promise and receiving the new giris into the Brownie ring were: Amy Landis, Kimberly Heis- ey, Lynn Booth, Kristen Straub, Sylvia Lutz, Barbara Mentzer, Debra Garber, and Laura Markley.
