Seiler Program Planned An art exhibit and music- al pregram will highlight the May 13 School and Home meeting at Seiler Element- ary School at 7 p.m. A short business meeting will followed by a group of songs on the theme, “On the Sea’, including folk songs, sea chanteys a spiritual and an Hawaiian song by the first grades taught by Miss Anna Mae Eby, Miss Edna Charles and Mrs. Dorothy Young. Dramatizations will accom- pany the singing. The second grades, taught by Mrs. Anna Fitzkee, Mrs. Anne Bell and Mrs. Mayme Hackman; will present a song story: ‘Lazy Brown Bear” with the boys and girls characterizing the ani- mals and bees. Peoples from many coun- tries who have brought their legends and songs to Ameri-- ca will be portrayed by the third grades taught by Miss Dorothy Kaylor and Mrs. Margaret Hart, After pre- senting songs from many countries all will join in singing “This Land Is Your Land”. Mrs. Beryl Hahn is art instructor and Mrs. Ethel Broske wvocal music instruc- tor. Charles Heaps is build- ing principal. The public is invited. . SCHOOL As a science project, Mrs. Clayton Bell's second grade students at Seiler Element- ary Schoel put some pussy willow stems into water in early | spring to watch the roots ' dewelop. Last week, the children de- cided the roots were thick enough to plant, so on Ar- bor Day, April 30, the tree was planted in the courtyard of the school, following in- structions -on plant -and fer- tilizing, given by Charles Heaps, schpol principal ahd Mr. Geib, janitor. The first, second, and third gradeh ceremony by group singing. The poem ‘“‘Trees’’ was read by Andrea McCue. As part of their project, the children will give continuing care to the tree. Breidenstein, for- mer deputy superintendent of school in the Common- wealth’s Department of Edu- cation and now chairamn of the Board of Trustees of Elizabethtown college, was the speaker Tuesday noon at the weekly luncheon meet- ing of the Mount Joy Rotary club, held at Hosteters. He showed pictures taken on a recent trip to Nigeria, in Africa, where he and Mrs. Breidenstein went to evaluate schools and church- es. He talked of the great contrast between the new emerging Nigeria and the old ways of the rural people of the country. He visited with and saw a number of men of Nigeria who have been in this im- mediate area in years past when they were taking col- lege and university work. The speaker was introduc- ed by Robert Kline, Rotary's president elect and program chairman. Jaycees Attend State Parley Ten Mount Joy Jaycees at- tended the Pennsylvania Jay- cee convention, held May 2 - 4 at Allentown. Elected state president was Aris Pasles of Upper Darby.
