tory at Michigan State Col-
lege in Kalamazoo.

their plans made for a tour
of Europe.
We know of still others
who plan to spend several
weicks on the Gaspe Penin-
sula, and yet others who
will fly to Germany to visit
a son-in-law and daughter
stationed there.

John W. Hawthorne Jr., 20,
son of Mr, and Mrs. John W.
Hawtharne, 30 Naomi Ave.
Landisville, has comp :ted a
helicopter pilot course at the
Army Primary Helicopter
School, Ft. Walters, T:x.
During the 16-week course,
he was trained to fly Army
Lolicopters and learned to
use them in tactical maneu-
vers.
He next will undergo ad-
vanced flight training at the
Army Aviation School Fort
Rucker, Ala. Upon comple-
tion of advanced training he
may be appointed a warrant
officar.
WOC Hawthorne entered
the Army in September 1968
and received basic training
at Ft. Polk La.
He is a 1966 graduate of
Hempfield high school, Lan-
disviliz.

Gary L. Taylor, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo F. Taylor, of
339 Church St., Landisville,
was assigned March 13 to the
American Division near Chu
Lai, Vietnam, as a supply
specialist.

Infantry of the division's
198th Light Infantry Brigade
Pvt. Taylor entered the Ar-
my in May 1968, completed
basic training -at Ft. Dix, N.
J.. and was stationed at Ft.
Rucker ,Ala.
The 20-year-old soldizr
graduated from Hempfield
high school, Ladisville, in
1966. and was employed by
RCA, Lancaster, befere en-
tering the Army.

public relations director for
the United Telephonz Com-
pany has been announced by
B. M. Witmer, United Presi-
dent. Green who has been

A native of the Butler, Pa.
ai'za, Green began his tele-
phone career with the Peo-
ples Telephone Corporation
in western Pennsylvania as
as an assistant engineer. His
U2lephone experiences have
been varied—working as a
lineman, commercial repre-
sentative and supervisor of
buildings and supplies. In
1962 he became commercial
manag'>2r and was promoted
to general commercial mana-
ger of Peoples-United in ’68.
Active in civic and chari-
table affairs, Green has serv-
ed as chairman of the Edu-
cation, Business and Industry
Commit!ize of Butler County.
He has been president of the
Butler Area Chamber of
Commerce and a former
president of the Wistern Pa.
Independent Telephone As-
sociation.
Recognized as an avid
sportsman and leading con-
servationist, Green was tho?
organizer and advisor of a
Boy Seouts of Amkrica Ex-
plorer Post (a career con-
servation specialty post). He
has served in many area and
state conservation posts and
has headed numerous sports-
men’s organizations in west-
ern Pennsylvania.

The marriage of Miss Mary
Miller and Spec. 4 Charles
R. Brown took place Satur-
day, April 19, in the - First
United Methodist Church,
Marietta. The 2 p.m. cere-
mony was conducted by the
Rav, Alonza Casselberry.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd B. Mil-
ler, 11 S. Locust St. ,Mariet-
ta; the bridegroom is the son
of Mrs. Dorothy Brown, 108
West Main Street and the
late Jacob Brown.
Thi2 bride was given in
marriage by her father and
attended by her twin sister,
Miss Margaret Miller, as the
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Miss Loral Harbold
and Mrs. Lynn Weaver, both
of Elizakethtown RD.
Richard Brown served his
brother as best man. Ushers
were Greg Schneider, Mount
Joy, and Dennis Houseal, of
Maytown,
Organist for the ceremony
was Miss Georgia Rahm. A
reception was held in the
church social hall.
The couple are graduates
of Donegal high school. The
bride is employed by Conti-
nental Press, Elizabethtown,
and the bridegroom is serv-
ing in the U. S. Army, sta-
tioned in Fort Lee ,Va.
A shower honoring the
bride was givi2n by her co-
workers and by her attend-
ants at the home of the
bridegroom’s parents. A post-
rehearsal buffet = luncheon
was held at the hom: of the
bridegroom’s mother.
Observe Golden
Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Braun, West Wood Stiizet,
celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary on Apr. 19.
They were surprised by the
arrival of their sons, Ernest
F. Braum of Warner Rob-
bins, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs.
Larry A. Braun of Wichita,
Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Braun were
guests of honor at a delie-
ious buffet luncki2on served
by their children and a
granddaughter, Mrs. Ralph
Rice, The children also pre-
sented them with a fireside
basket of golden flowiars.
The received many nice gifts.
Entertainment was provided
by a granson, Gary Epler,
who showed slides of a trip
last summer to California.
Those attending in addi-
tion to the sons mentioned a-
bove were Mrs. Sylvester
Donegal Street.

Discuss Plans
The Joycee>ttes discussed
plans for their spring and
summer activities at their
regular meeting on Tuesday,
April 15 held at the V.F.W.
home.
Twenty-four members at-
tended the meeting, which
was directed by the newly-
elected officers — presicint,
Shirley Yingst; vice presi-
dent, Nancy Martin; second
vice president, Winnie Gey-
er; cecretary, Nancy Reymer
treasurer, Donna Aument;
director, LeVon Harnish;
historian, Lee Rogers; orph-
ans, Shirley Rafferty; tditor,
Loretta Gehman and past
president, Pat Lesher.
Plans again are underway
for the “Stay at Home”
Memorial Day Festival, to
be held at the Florin Fire
company. Games rides, priz,-
es and hom:made goodies
again will b= on hand, with
beef as the specialty of the
day.
The Seventy-Five Plus ban-
quet will be held on June 19
for the senior citizens of the
community. The Joycee-ettes
and the Jaycees plan jointly
for this project.
Trophies will be presented
by the club to the outstand-
ing boy and girl athlete at
Donegal high school during
the Awards Assembly at D.
H. S. next month.
