iv Well, now which is it? ® oo eo Is it Plumb street or Plum street which runs north and south in the Florin ward of Mount Joy? ® Oo eo We reported last week that on at least two of the intersections of that street, there are marker signs which Thursday, February 20 — At Farm Show Bldg., Harrisburg indicate that the name is Plumb. The rest of the corn. ers are marked Plum. ® @ ® Now comes a quick report by a reader that the name should be Plumb. A man with a sense of the history of the community, he looked onan old map and found that Plumb is the name there re- corded. Ss ® © The matter of street mark- ers came up recently when someone noted that Market avenue, at Main street, is shown as Marke. eo © oo Probably the most confus- ing street designation in the community is Market street and Market avenue. All too often people who are strang- ers to ‘the area miss the im- portant street or avenue and soon firtd themselves in trou- ble. ® © o¢ Looking back on the situ- ation, it might have been bet- ter to have renamed one or the other of the streets when the Florin ward was annexed into the borough. ® © o In fact, it might be a good idea to do it even now. ® © o ©. ‘KK. Snyder, who keeps an eye on such things, sug- gests that the name probably is correct as Plumb, pointing to the fact that two other streets in the immediate area are Square and Angle. He wonders if some Masons had anything to do with naming the streets. ® © oo Generally speaking, alleys in the same area tend to be named for some kind of fruit — Cherry, Apple, (and, believe it or not) there is a Plum alley shown on the borough map) and an Orange and a Lemon. = BULLETIN ’ Mount Joy's ONLY Newspaper VOL. 68. The Donegal Irish, of course, as they fought their way to a 61-59 victory over Hempfield and pushed aside the most formidable obstacle Donegal 61, Hempfield 59 to the 1969 county playoffs. Although the Tuesday nite game at Elizabethtown was a necessary extension of the season, it was the Friday night stem . winder with Hempfield which blew the lid off the top, climaxing the scheduled season’s activities. The Indians versus the Black Knights always is something special in the way of rivalry. But Friday of last week was above and be. yond that for Donegal. In the first place, how long has it been since the Indians have been able to trip the Black Knights? Fan fever was red hot, be- ginning with the first whistle blast of the preliminary game. It kept building until pandemonium broke loose as the final buzzer of the varsi. ty game sounded. In fact, so tremendous was the -noise that perhaps few people actually heard the official signal. With one eye on the clock, they saw the zeros indicate the end and saw the timekeeper heave a ‘knotted white towel onto the floor to give an added signal to players and referees. Donegal fans swarmed off the bleachers and from their packed standing positions a. round the floor. They envel- oped the team. But, this time it was for the championship of Section One of Lancaster County. Tuesday night's _ basketball Donegal 83, Etown 81 struggle at Elizabethtown, the playirg of a game post- poned a couple of weeks ago, was snatched out of the fire, 83 - 81, in the final min- utes of play—a tremenoous do or die finish which was worthy of the label ‘“‘excit- ing” which has been hung on the Indians. Both the Indians and the E-town Bears were hot on the nets, scoring a very large total of 164 points. The In dians’ 83 was their best production of the season. Victory zoomed Coach Ken Keener and his lads into the courty playoff Thursday night, Feb. 20, at the Farm Show building against War- wick. The Barons, who romped away with Section Two hon- ors for the season, also hold a win over the Indians in the Holiday tournament. Tuesday night's game, postponed because of the sudden death on Friday," Feb. 7 of the Elizabethtown football coach, saw the In- dians forced to play a team which was keyed to play a David role. The Bears would have liked nothing better than to have chewed up Don- egal’s championship plan and cast a stone fo knock down a Goliath. : Donegal was forced to go the route, as in other games late this season, to hold off a foe which saw a chance of (Turn to page 8) Sweetheart Contest Opens Voting began last for Sweetheart Queen! The 1968-69 Indians have afforded the fans a wonderful season of entertainment. And, to describe it in one word is simply to say that it has been “exciting.” Some basketball teams can be called powerful. Others are best termed brilliant; others, towering; others, overpowering, others, still other adjectives. But, the Indians this season have been just plain “exciting.” No one — even the players or coach himself, it often appeared—knew just when and what was going to happen when the team Went out on the court! sR ETI opty fT
