Fire- men are doing the work. ® & © Not long ago, you will re- call, we told of making con- tact with a postmaster in Ire- land and about Mountjoy, Lmagh, etc. etc. ® oo © This week we received from this same Postmaster Kennedy a page from the Ulster Herald of Saturday, Feb. 24, which carried a 3- column picture of ‘‘Thatcher at work on historic Mountjoy cottage.” The caption says, “This week thatchers are at work on the cottage at Camp Hill Farm, Mountjoy, Omagh, in which Judge Thomas Mel- lon was born in 1813. He was the father of Andrew Mellon, U. S. Secretary of the Treas- ury from 1921 to 1932 and U. S. Ambassador in London from 1932 to 1933. The Mel- lon family of Pittsburgh (they spelled it without the final h) has given a $250,000 bequest for the restoration of the cot- tage and its preservation as a national monument. It is expected to be opened in June next year. Thatcher on the job is Mr. John Casey of Glenmoran, Strabane (on lad- der) and his assistant is Mr. John Duddy, Donemana.” ® o& o We noted many items of interest, not the least of which was that somewhere in the area is another com- munity called “Mountfield.” Reschedule Band Concert at DHS A concert by the U. S. Army band at Donegal high school, which was postponed because of weather, has been rescheduled, it was an- nounced this week by Glen Leib, D.S.H. Bandmaster. The program will be held on Monday, May 20, begin- ning at 8 p.m. in the D.H.S. auditorium. The ceremonial detach- ment band will feature as vocalists a group known as the “Soldiers of Song.” Admission will be free. Schedule Easter Sunrise Service An Easter Sunrise service, sponsored by the Mount Joy Youth and the Mount Joy Ministerium, will be held on Sunday morning, April 14, at the Florin Church of the Brethren. Services will begin at 6 a.m. Speaker will be John Weidman, representing the Mount Joy Church of God. Coffee and donuts will be served following the service. She will be 87 years old. VOL. 67, NO. 4 Memorial Day Parade Plans Move Forward - Plans for the 1968 Mem- orial Day Parade, to be held Saturday, May 25, are well on the way! The parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting from Angle Street, Florin Ward, going io Park Avenue. To date, the parade includes 10 bands, 8 marching groups, antique cars, horses and colorful floats. Anyone wishing to partici- pate in the parade, should contact the parade chairman, James Gingrich, by phoning 653-5714. Answers Call From Fla. Church The Rev. Robert J. Har- man of Oneida, N. Y., for- mer pastor of Harvey Wagner Memorial Chapel, Ventnor Heights, has accpt- ed a call to become pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Stuart, Fla. He reported to his new charge April 1. While in Oneida his church set up a unicameral board, adopted new by-laws, doubled its income, and com- p'eted a $100,000 renova- tions program. The Rev. Mr. Harman has taken an active part in community affairs. He has been vice president of Oneida Council of Chur- ches, vice president of a Parent-Teacher Association, is a member of the General Council and the Christian education committee of the Utica Presbytery, and has been a substitute teacher in Oneida. The Rev. Mr. Harman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Harman reside in Vent- nor. The pastor's wife is the former Mary Elizabeth Robinson of Linwood. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Harman are parents of three chil- dren, Janice, Mary-Beth and Amy-Jo. White the Pastor will bring an un- usual musical sermon on the “Cross.” INCREASES DIVIDEND At its meeting Tuesday morning, the board of dir- ectors of the Lancaster Co- unty Farmers National Bank voted to increase its regular quarterly dividend from 40c to 45c¢ per share. This repre- sents an increase of 12% % and will be paid May 1 to shareholders of record April 9th. Elects New Chief Friendship Fire company has a new chief! At the company’s monthly meeting, held Thursday night, April 4, Frank Good was named to head the firemen, replacing John “Mouse” Myers, who had resigned. Myers, who terminated his service as chief as well as all other responsibilities with Friendship, has resigned his tenure as of April 1. Good, who has been assist- ant chief under Myers, later in the evening was sworn into office. His place as assistant is to be taken by James Markley, who has been chief hose di- rector. Richard Dillinger was named to that post. Another resignation also was accepted by the company when recently-installed Ronal Gotwalt, asked to be relieved as recording secretary. Bill Charles was named {(o that position. In the voting for a new chief, ballots were evenly di- vided between Good and “Spook” Kaylor. The decid- ing vote was cast by the com- pany president. DHS. Baseball Team Opens Fast With Three Wins Donegal high school’s 1963 bascball team, under the di- rection of veteran coach Don Staley, is off to a flying start and this week already stands with three straight wins. Next game is set for Tues- day, April 16, with Hemp- field playing on the Indians’ field. : Openers on Tuesday of last week gave the Tribe a win over host Manheim Cen- tral as one hit was stretched to a 3-1 advantage. With the count 1-1, a two-run explo- s'on in the top of the last inning turned the trick. The blow was a three baser by Musser. Sutter hurled for Donegal, giving four hits, fanning five and giving only one walk. Thursday, the 4th, Colum- bia opened Donegal’s home schedule, giving up another 3-1 game. Meckley was the winning pitcher, allowing the Tide only two hits while his mates rapped Grove for seven—Derr and Flanagan claimed two each. Tuesday afternoon on the home field, the Tribe eased through 3-2 over Elizabeth- town with a seventh-inning one-run tie-breaker. Secondbaseman Ken Derr singled home John Shrum. Bruce Sutter was the win- ning pitcher, giving seven hits. His mates collected 7 blows off Chuck Wigle. Easter Egg Hunt At St. Luke's The annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Church School of St. Luke’s Episcopal church will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. on the church lawn. Children of all ages are invited to participate in this event. A donation of twenty- five cents per child is re- quested. The proceeds this year will be used to help defray the travel expenses of the Rev. Festus Ogun- banjo when he returns to his home in Nigeria. Prizes will be awarded at the Egg Hunt. In case of rain, the event will be held on Easter, Mon- day, April 15, at 4 pm. at that same place. The public is invited to attend and participate. BOGGS IN HOSPITAL Frank Boggs, who oper- ates the borough emergency services telephones from his trailer in Apple Tree alley, is in the hospital again.
