Wiliam Hoffman, Landis-

pointed as a member of the
Hempfield Union School Bd.

board passed a resolution
commending the Public Utili-
ties Commission for odering
a new bridge in Rohrerstown.
The board reported that
approximately 4,000 persons
attended the annual open
house at Centerville Junior
high school October 29.
Resignations of two teach-
ers, Mrs. Dorothy Pilberg,
fifth grade at Mountville Ele-
mentary School and Mrs.
Nancy Miller, fourth grade at
East Petersburg elementary
school, were accepted. Hired
was Miss Deanna Walker, 121
East Main St., Mount Joy, as
fourth grade teacher at East
Petersburg elementary school
The annual board reorganiza-
tion meeting will be held at
12:30 p.m., Dec. 4th.

A course on babysitting in
currently being held for 7th
and 8th grade girls, in the
Hempfield area by the Hemp-
field Jaycee-ettes in the all-
purpose room ofthe new Cen-
terville Junior high school.
At the first class, Dr. Gerald
Albright, of Landisville spoke
on the medical aspects of
babysitting. Mrs. Leslie Blake
of the Visiting Nurses Asso-
ciation, discussed infant and
child care at the second ses-
sion.
Mrs. Charles Vogt spoke
on accident prevention and
first aid at the third class.
Mrs. Vogt is from the Ameri-
can Red Cross. Trooper Ed-
win Grazer, of the Lancaster
State Police, gave tips for
babysitters’ safety at the fin-
al class of instruction.
At the final session, the
girls who pass the test will
be given certificates which
state that they are qualified
babysitters.
There will be listings of
all girls who receive certifi.
cates in the various stores in
the Hempfield area for any-
one who would be interested
in using their babysitting ser-
vices.
Members of the commitiee
in charge of the course are
Mrs. Roy Weitzel, Mrs. Ken-
neth Malehorn, Mrs. Marvin
Millhouse and Mrs. Donald
Miller, chairman. School ad-
visors are Mrs, Earl F. Koch-
enour and Mrs. Thomas Hall.
Seventy-two girls are en-
rolled in the course which
has a small registration fee.

The Ladies’ Auxiliary of
American Legion Post 185,
Mount Joy will hold their
regular monthly meeting on
December 7 at the Post home
in the form of a Christmas
Party starting at 7 pm. A
covered dish supper will be
served. Business meeting
will follow at 8 p. m. All
members are invited to at-
tend the meeting. Everyone
attending should bring a gift
which will be wrapped and

Seaman Recruit Robert D.
Stoner, USN, 19, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert G. Stoner,
343 N. Barbara Street, has
been graduated from nine
weeks of Navy basic train-
ing at the Naval Training
Center here.
In the first weeks of his
naval service he studied mili-
tary subjects and lived and
worked under conditions sim-
ilar to those he will encoun-
ter on his first ship or at
his first shore station.
In making the transition
from civilian life to Naval
service, he received instruc-
tion under veteran Navy
petty officers. He studied
seamanship, as well as sur-
vival techniques, military
drill and other subjects.

984 feet high, and contains
7.300 tons of iron and steel.
The man who built the tower,
Alexandre Eiffel, also design-
ed the framework for the
statue of liberty.
