Girl Scout week was arrang-
ed by Brownie Troop 312,
Landisville at Benders Store,
Salunga, beginning Monday,
March 13.
The troop also attended the
10:30 a. m. service at Lan-«
disville Church of God in a
body on Sunday, March 12.

Richard Collins, a member
of the eighth grade at Hemp-
field Junior high school, was
named Hempfield School Dis-
tract winner in Time's 31st
annual current affairs con-
test, Andrew Amway, Ameri-
can history teacher and dis-
trict coordinator of the eon-
test, announced recently.
Collins, the top scorer in
the combined 8th and 11th
grade American history con-
test conducted by Amway,
received a certificate from
James Shepley, publisher eof
Time, the weekly news ma-
gazine. Other high scoring
Hempfield students include
two eleventh graders, David
Brubaker and Dale Bushong;
and four eight graders, Dav-
id Baker, Bill Ewven, Sheryl
Forte and Roger Gutzwiller.

parted Saturday, March 11,
for the 22nd Annual Assoei-
ation for Supervision and
Curriculum Development
Conference to be held in
Dallas Texas. The national
confab theme in ‘“‘Humaniz-
ing Education: The Person in
the Process.”

sired to register children fer
kindergarten next term—had
the opportunity to do so on
Wednesday, March 15 at the
elementary centers of this
school district.
On this same day, children
whe have not attended Kkin-
dergarten this present scheel
term, but are to be enrolled
in first grade were also to be
registered.
Valerie York, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph York
of Landisville, has been nam-
ed editor-in-chief by “Flash”
the Hempfield high school
newspaper.
Serving as junior high edi-
tor will be Sylvia Smith,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Smith, also of Lan-
disville. New feature editors
are Mike Miller and Sherry
Smith. Judith Anderman is
sports editor and Christine
Hondras, news editor.

wards at its annual Blue &
Gold banquet at Hostetters
banquet hall in Mount Joy:
Wolf badges, Rodney Schrad-
er and Donald Stoudt. Bear
barges: Gary Stotzfus, Eric
Muench, Robert Reheard,
Jeff Brubaker and Reid La
Clair; Lion badge: John Mor-
rison. Bobcats inducted into
the troop were: Eddie Hofi-
man, Richard Bender, Mike
Kautz, Donald Anderson,
Jeff Stanley and David Kline

The Easter Vacation for
the Hempfield Union School
District will begin at the end
of school, Tuesday and will
resume with regular sessions
on Tuesday, March 28.

The Salunga Womens club
entertained ‘‘the Golden Ag-
ers,” of Salunga and Landis-
ville on Saturday, March 18,
at the Church of God, Lan-
disville. The meeting was at-
tended by 50 members.
The entertainment was as
follows: Miss Prudence Davis
sang a solo, accompanied by
Miss Debbie McFarland. The
speaker was Rev. H. M.
Mumper, minister of the
Church of God, Landisville.
Amos Herr showed slides of
the surrounding communities.
A light lunch was served
by the committee of the Weo-
mens club, which were: Mrs.
Barbara Hess, Mrs. Bernice
MeFarland, Mrs. Ellen Metz-
el, Mrs. Mary Haldeman and
