Naval Training Station, Great
Lakes, Ill., were caught in the
blizzard on the turnpike near
Chicago this past weekend.
“It was dreadful!” Mr. Hen-
drix said. “Seven inches of
snow fell in one hour, and it
was 8 below zero, with the

wind blowing a gale!
“We kept moving, but drove
only five miles in one hour.
Cars and trucks were stalled
everywhere, and the snow
was coming down so hard
that you couldn't even be
sure you were on the high-
way a lot of the time!”
Needless to say, the Hen-
drix family was glad to be
safely back in Mount Joy,

United Utilities
To Up Dividends
An increase in the quarter-
ly dividend and a proposal
to authorize the issuance of
10 million shares of prefer-
red stock has received appro-
val of the Board of Directors
of United Utilities, Inc.
The board, meeting at the
company headquarters in
Kansas City, voted to in-
crease the first quarterly div-
idend of 1967 to 20 cents a
share, up from 19 cents, to
shareholders of record on
March 28.
The indicated annual divi-
dend rate of 80 cents a share
is up four cents a share from
1966.
A resolution to amend the
articles of incorporation and
authorize the issuance of 10
million shares of preferred
stock, with specific terms to
be stipulated by the directors,
was passed. The proposal is
subject to approval by stock-
holders at the company’s an-
nual meeting May 25. The
record date entitling stock-
holders to notice of and to
vote at the annual meeting
was set as April 17, 1967.
“This form of security is
being recommended to our
shareholders to provide addi-
tional flexibility in our ac-
quisition program and in fin-
ancing our record construc-
tion program,” P. H. Henson,
president and board chairman
said.
Agreement in principle on
the terms of a merger of
Pioneer Telephone Com-
pany of Wacondia, Minn., in-
to the United Telephone Sys-
tem was announced,
The merger, expected to
be completed later this year,
will extend the United Tele-
phone System into two new
states, Minnesota and North
Dakota.

Sir Valentine
Elected at D.H.S.
Carl Hostetter, a senior en-
rolled in the Donegal high
school business course, has
captured the title of “Sir
Valentine” in the contest
held annually at D. H. S.
Other candidates in the con-
test included Raymond Wag
ner, Dave Gerberich, Ken .
Smith and Bob Baker.
The above nominees were
chosen by senior homerooms.
The entire student body
chose the winner of the con-
test by depositing penny
votes in jars decorated for
each candidate.
A total of $24.41 was col-
lected through the contest
and will be turned over to
Heart Haven in Lancaster.
Carl’s activities have in-
cluded participation on the
Indian grid team. He wrest-
led at 180 lbs. and occupied
the right guard position on
the football squad. He also
has maintained a berth on
the tennis team throughout
his high school career.
