IT'S CONFUSING to write

’ on. wee should
be put in the cooler part of
the house and limited lights
used on it. After being in
the cooler part of the house
the tree should be moved to
a cooler building such as a
garage and kept there for
several weeks before setting
out in the open; keep the
soil around the roots damp
at all times.
WHILE I'm on the subject of
Christmas trees, I'd like to
point out the need of insert-
ing the stump of any cut tree
into water or damp soil, saw-
dust, or sand during the stay
indoors. Many average trees
will use a quart of water per
day when in warm buildings.
If this water is not furnished
through the trunk, the need-
les will dry out and become
a dangerous fire hazard.
When instructing youngsters
about living in a room with
a Christmas tree, the dangers
of open flame from candles
or matches should be stres-
sed: the tree should be plac-
ed as for as possible from the
fire-place and secured so that
it will not tip over. Christ-
mas tree safety is very im-
portant for a happy holiday
season.
WITH THE approaching win-
ter season and the daily pos-
sibility of slippery snow and
ice, I'd like to suggest the
use of sand, salt, or some
other abrasive on steps, and
walks in order to prevent in-
jury to both man and beast.
