Simmons, forty eight, 563 West Market St., Marietta, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Lancast- er. Born in Marietta, he was a son of the late Winfield F. and Jennie Nein Simmons. He was a veteran of World War I when he served four years in the Army infantry. He was a participant in the North African campaign and the battles of Anzio and Sal- erno in Italy. He had been employed by Grinnell Corp. in Columbia for 15 years and was a mem- ber of Local 376, Internation- al Molders and Allied Work- ers. He was a member of the Marietta and Susquehanna Beneficial Associations. In addition to his wife, Laura C. Walters Simmons, he is survived by 3 daugh- ters: and Lori F., all at home, and Ethel, and Wood, Millersville. the following brothers sisters: Kathleen A., Amy L.,' wis, Hazelton, and Christy W., Santa Clara, Calif.; James E., York; Ralph B. Mount Joy R1; Simon M., Mount Joy; Sarah, wife of Mathew White, O'Fallon, Ill.; and Gloria, wife of Paul Smith, Mount Joy RI1. Funeral services were held from the Smedley funeral home Tuesday, April 19, and burial was made in the Mari- etta cemetery. SARAH J. LEWIS Mrs. Sarah J. Lewis, 17), wife of Ray C. Lewis, 626 Church Street, Landisville, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she had been a patient six days. Born in Wade, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Llew- elyn and Sarah Corby Lewis and was a member of the First Baptist church, Hazel- ton. In addition to her husband there survive two sons and a daughter: Harold W., Ambler; Raymond L., and Sarah E., wife of John J. Brauer, both of Lancaster; nine grandchil- dren; a brother, William Le- a sister wife of Herbert Funeral services were held E. Wednesday morning from the Bair funeral home, ville, and burial was in the Millersville Mennonite cemetery. MRS. JESSE SNAVELY Mrs. Ella L. Snavely, 68, wife of Jesse Snavely, Jr. 650 Church St., Landisville, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at her home after an illness of several months. Born at Paradise, she was a daughter of the late Martin H. and Ida Bowermaster Lichty, and was a resident of Landisville for 45 years. She was a member of the Landis- ville Church of God for forty years, the Iris Club, Lancast- er: she was a Landisville Sun- day school teacher for many years and a member of the WCSC of the Church of God. In addition to her husband surviving are three sons: J. William, James L. and Jere M. Snavely, all of Landis- ville: nine grandchildren and a sister, Miss Mary K. Lichty of Lancaster. Private funeral services were held Monday morning, April 18, from the Koser fu- neral home and burial was made in Conestoga Memorial Park. CLAYTON NOLT Clayton H. Nolt, 82, of 206 Broad St., Landisville, died Tuesday, April 19, at 2 a.m. in the General hospital after an illness of one week. He served on the board of directors and as an adviser at the Lancaster County Home for 28 years, until ’63. A retired farmer, he form- erly did custom threshing and combining. Born in East Earl Twp., a son of the late John W. and Annie Hess Nolt, he resided in Landis- ville 17 years and was a member of the Landis Valley Mennonite church. Surviving are his wife, Lizzie Oberholtzer Nolt, these children, Clarence O., Bird- in-Hand; Lester O., Manheim R1; Melvin O., and Stella, wife of J. Ross Esbenshade, held Friday at 2 p.m. the Koser funeral home and burial will be made in the Groffdale cemetery. FLORENCE L. STARR Mrs. Florence L. Starr, 59, Lancaster County jury com- missioner, died at 5:10 am. | Tuesday, April 19, at her home, 120 N. Barbara St., af- ter an illness of 3 months. She was the widow of Os- car L. Starr, who died in April, 1957. Mrs. Starr, legal secretary for attorney David F. Cham- bers, Jr., Lancaster, was elec- ted jury commissioner on the Republican ticket in the No- vember election. She worked as a legal secretary from ’43 to her death. Mrs. Strr was an active member of the Lancaster Co. Women’s Republican Club, and served four terms as committeewoman from Mount Joy’s east ward. She was a member and for- mer vice president and re- cording secretary of Conesto- ga Chapter, National Secre- taries Assoc. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran church of Mount Joy and the Lutheran Women. She had worked as a tour- ist information lecturer at the Amish Farm and House and had operated a grocery store from 1935 to 1943. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Friendship Fire Company #1 of Mount Jovy, the Lancaster Automobile Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Luth- eran Seminary at Gettysburg. Born in Elgin, Til, Mrs. Starr was the the late George A. and Flor- ence M. Single Kuss. She moved to Lancaster in 1909 and to Mount Joy in 1935. She is survived by a son, daughter of]. Donald H. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Samuel N. and Elizabeth Norholdt Rye. He was formerly of Mount Joy, was an army veteran of Wor- ld War I and was a member of the Lutheran church. He s is survived by a bro- ther, Aaron Rye, of Mt. Joy. SAMUEL CHILDS Samuel Childs, seventy, of 842 Barber St.,; Columbia, died Monday, April 18 at 12:20 a.m. in the Columbia hospital after an illness of 1 week. Born in Mount Joy, a son of the late Jacob and Marjor- ie Schaeffer Childs, he was employed by the Grinnell Corp. and was a member of the Molders and Foundry- men’s Union. He was the hus- band of the late Freda Mec- Gaughran Childs.
