The East Hempfield Demo-
cratic committee held a cof-
fee hour on April 26 at 7:30
p.m. at the Landisville Fire
Hall.
All Democratic women in
the Township were invited.
Mrs. Ruth Grigg Horting, of
Lancaster, spoke.
Democrat leaders and can-
didates on the township tick-
et attended.

Levi H. Brubaker, of 2001
Marietta Pike, was named
chairman of the East Hemp-
field Township newly organ-
ized zoning board of adjust-
ment, which met recently.
The board also named Char-
les M. Eby, township zoning
officer, as board secretary.
The board approved five re-
quests for zoning exceptions
at the initial series of hear-
ings. There were no object-
jons at the initial series of
hearings. There were no ob-
jections to any of the re-
quests.

Five members of the
Hempfield high school Key
Club attended the state-wide
Key Club convention at the
Hilton Hotel, Pittsburgh on
Friday, Saturday and Sun-
day, April 23-24-25.
The conbetnion includ-
ed workshops and discus-
sions, climaxed by a dance!
on Saturday evening; and de-

votions on Sunday.
The boys who attended
from Hempfield were as fol-
lows.
_ Robert Shank, Robert Soo-
per, Paul Hollinger, MacDon-
ald Starks and Donald Ris-
ser. Mrs. John Wolfe, teach-
er, was chaperone.
The Hempfield high school
Alumni Association Commit-
tee completed plans for an
expanded effort to obtain con-
tributions for its Scholarship
Fund during a special meet-
ing recently at the high
school.
“We hope to contribute
$4,000 in scholarships to the
Hempfield graduates this
spring, so we've got to keep
the fund growing, said Jas.
Snavely, committee chair-
man.
Last year nine graduates
were awarded $3,800 in
scholarship. A total of 54
have received funds since the
scholarship was organized in
1952.

Hempfield Union High
School held its annual honors
banquet on Monday, April
26 at 6:30 p.m. in the junior
high cafeteria. Donald Bis-
singer, junior high principal,
was master of ceremonies.
Music was provided by a for-
mer__ student, Miss Arlene
Hartenstine. A total of 169
students attended, along with

members of the school board
administration ‘and faculty,

Deana Horst, a senior at
Hempfield High School, Da-
vid Haag, a junior at Hemp-
field, and Miles Harriger, a
sophomore, are planning to
spend the summer in France.
Deana and David have ap-
plied to the American Pre-
College Program in Paris,
sponsored by Americans in
the Latin Quarter. In addi-
tion to six different class lev-
els in the French language
the program offers these
courses: Art in France,
French civilization, French
History, Fernch Literature,
and music and dance.
Prior to the start of the
session, the program will
conduct an 1l-day tour of
Belgium, Holland, Switzer-
land and Germany.
Harringer will be staying
at the Cie Universities in
Riems. The Foreign Lan-
guage League Program will
begin on June 28 and will
last until August 10.

The Hempfield Sertoma
club met Wednesday evening,
April 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the
Mount Joy American Legion
Post Home.
The Girl Scout Troop,
which the Club sponsors
were the guests of the even-
ing.

open meeting for the public
is scheduled for May at a
date to be announced.
Meetings are tentatively
scheduled to be held in the
meeting room of the Indian
Springs Golf Club.

Mrs. Myrtle Warner is a
patient in the General hos-
pital.
Miss Jane Fryberger and
Mrs. Frances Greer were
delegates to the B.P.W. Tri-
county convention at Waynes-
boro over the weekend.
The Rev. Robert Cunning-
ham, missionary in Masuda,
Japan, will be the guest
speaker at St. John’s Luther-
an Church on Thursday eve-
ning. He will also show
slides.
Mrs. Ruth Henderson and
your correspondent returned
‘from Cabot, Arkansas Sun-
day. They visited Airman &
Mrs. Larry Henderson and
children. While there they
visited the area that was de-
stroyed by the tornado. Such
destruction is almost un-
believable.
Miss Carol Gratch was fe-
ted with a bridal shower
when she was home for the
Easter holidays. Mrs. Clayton
Showalter, Jr. was the host-
ess.
Carol and her fiancee
Thomas Haack spent the
holidays with Dr. and Mrs.
Michael Gratch.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Deems
of McKeesport, spent the
Easter weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Smith.
The next meeting of the
Donegal 4-H Club will be
held June 15 at the Donegal
Presbyterian Church.

Grade Winners
Barbara Baker, playing the
clarinet accompanied by
Barbara Rohrbaugh on the
piano, and Barbara Rohr-
baugh with a tap dance, tied
for first and second place in
the seventh grade talent as-
sembly recently.
Winners were judged by
seven student judges and
three faculty judges, on the
basis of talent, stage bearing
and applause.
Student Council awards a
trophy to the top talent act
in each grade. Since there
was a tie this year, co-champ-
ions will be honored.
Suzanne O’Connor and De-
borah Roberts - aerobatic
routine, third; Donna Young,
vocal selection, accompanied
by Donna Robinson, fourth;
Kathy McGlynn - dance, fifth
LuAnn Hess - marimba, sixth
Barry Gemberling, trumpet,
accompanied by his mother,
seventh; Becky Reinhold and
Roxanne Heisey - acrobatics,
eighth; Pamela Kraus, dance,
ninth; Becky Shoemaker and
Pamela Kraus, piano duet,
tenth.
These winners were select-
ed from two different shows
containing 27 acts.
Band Parents
The Donegal Band Club
will meet Monday, May 3, in
the Donegal high school mus-
ic room, at 7:30 p.m.
The band will be playing
at the New York World's
Fair Tuesday, May 11. The
band club also will be spon-
soring extra buses for peo-
ple who want to go along to
the fair. Reservations must
be made before May 1 with
Mrs. Heisey or Mrs. Irvin
Smith.
TO WILLIAMSBURG
Mr. and Mrs. Flory New-
comer of Mount Joy and Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Newcomer of
Elizabethtown visited at Wil-
liamsburg, Va., over the
week end.
