PAGE 5 Tribe Rolls Over Manor One of Donegal’'s best wea- pons on the hardwood floor this season is a double-edged scoring thrust which has left the opposition confused as to where to place its defense. It’s a hard-hitting scoring duo called John and Jack which has spelled defeat for every Indian opponent this season except one. The Jacob Stricklers are in Orlando, Fla. Mrs. Samuel Crowl is in Kissimmee; H. Roy Nissly is vacationing in Jamacia. The Norman Sprech- ers are enjoying a brief stay in the “land of sunshine.” a * we It was good to see some of our college young people “around town” this past week —Rob Walker and Clayton Bell, home from Grove City College . . . Mimi O’Connor home from Allbright Dick Sloan, home from Phar- macy School in Philadelphia . . . Pam Toppin home from Mary Washington College in Virginia . .. Of course there were many others whom we DID NOT see . . . * * * Last week we had a bou- quet of golden forsythia. This week we hear of a robin. In spite of the groundhog’s dire prediction of six more weeks of winter, we believe that spring is not far away! The first report of a robin comes from Supt and Mrs. Wilbur Beahm, who saw one in the yard at their home on movie, a! no exception against Penn Manor. That week, Jack Rice un- wound with a whopping 30- point barrage—using a dozen fielders and six free tosses— to nearly single handedly out- score the visitors. Big John Brown rung up 17 points and that is a good night's work for most basket- ballers. The final score was 67 to 37, which emphasizes the fact that a two-gun Indian tribe is better than a one-gun hunting party. The exception to that state- iment would appear to be if that one big gun is named Beaston and he plays for Co- lumbia. At any rate, Friday night's game was Donegal all the way, starting with a 16 to 2 advantage at the quarter and then gliding along to a 33 to 12 half and a 45 - 24 third- quarter advantage. In the preliminary, Done- gal J.V.’s took a 44-33 win. Friday night, the Tribe en- tertains Hempfield. Rehearsals Continue Rehearsals continue for “The Distlefink Lady,” which will be presented by the Mount Joy Lions club at the Donegal Annex. Tom Wolfgang is director of the original comedy writ- ten by Marion Weaver and Roma Greth. The Mount Joy Library Center will receive a large slice of the play proceeds. Donegal Springs Road! * * ¥ | It’s nice when newcomers to town “see” and express appreciation for things which are distinctly “Mount Joy.” We take it as a good omen that the new pastor of the Mount Joy and Donegal Pres- byterian churches, the Rev. Harry Freebairn, did just | that when he walked into Mrs. Amanda Darrenkamp’s inimitable store on Main St. last week. Peering delightedly first in one direction and then an- other, he said, with warm ap- preciation, “Well, if it isn’t ‘a real, live’ candy store!” That remark seems to make him ‘one of us!” | Patronize our Advertisers WHEN YOU | MOUNT JOY, PA. b Member ' MONEY IN YOUR HAND She PAY BY CHECK!
