Report of Civie Association Committee: The Executive Committee meeting was held at the home | of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haines Thursday evening, Jan. 21. | It was attended by the newly elected officers, directors, committee chairmen and re- tiring officers. A motion was made to pay $60 to the American Legion for the use of the building for Civic Association activi- ties and meetings during ’64. Action was taken to rec- ommend that the association sponsor the Community play- ground activities for the sum- mer of 1965. After a period of discussion a motion was made that an annual budget be prepared which will reflect the amount of money that must be raised annually to meet the Associa- tion’s commitments. The fol- lowing were appointed on this committee: Gerald Linde- muth, chrm.; Robert Hiestand and Ivan Hess. A report was given by Nor- man. Houseal and Wilson Penwell on the conversion of the tennis courts to an ice skating rink. Information se- cured through the Township Supervisors from the Con- struction Co. gave the assur- ance that this conversion is possible without damaging the courts. Necessary chang- es will be maade so that the rink can be used from year to year. Hospitality chrm., Grace Henderson reported cards were sent to shut-ins and per- sons hospitalized. Contacts by this committee are also made with new residents. A report from the chair- man of the Shade Tree com- mittee indicates that the Ar- bor Day Poster Contest in the elementary school will a- gain be sponsored. A membership drive will be conducted and an effort made to solicit the coopera- tion of the community in the Association projects. Hummer, 56, of Lancaster, died Saturday, Jan. 23 at his home after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Solomon I. and Nancy Bruba- ker Hummer and was born in Chambersburg. Hummer was a mechanic for the White, Indiana, Ser- vices Inc., Manheim Pike. He is survived by these children: Doris M., wife of Timothy Droney, Lancaster; Nancy I., wife of Bill Gager, Lancaster; and Rickie A. wife of James Grubb, Mount Joy; the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Cora I. Lam- bert, Lancaster; Mrs. Viola omon D. Hummer, Chambers- burg RD; and Luther R. Hummer, Greencastle; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Sheetz Funeral home in Lan- caster. Burial was made in the St. Thomas cemetery in Franklin County. Peifer, 206 East Done- gal Street, a 1961 graduate of Donegal high school re- cently was awarded a medal for his service with the 615th Fighter Squadron in Viet Nam. Airman Peifer, who is a flight technician for the 615th is returning for another tour of duty to Viet Nam on February 2. He also played an impor- tant part in the Cuban Crisis, being interviewed personally by the late President John F. Kennedy at Homestead AFB, Florida.
