Mrs. Violet Mitzel Capello,
daughter of Charles Mitzel,
York, passed away several
weeks ago in a Harrisburg
hospital. Mrs. Capello former-
ly lived in Maytown. She was
widely known for her music-
al talent,
Mrs. Rose Leas was confin-
ed to the house with virus
pneumonia.
Mrs. Violet Downing and
Miss Rose Zink spent the
holidays with Mr. and Mrs.
Hiram Mayers.
Mrs. Martha Trostle, her

Frybergers on Dec. 20.
Sandy Scott, who is major-
ing in physical education, is
doing her practice teaching
at Yardley, Pa.

the funeral services of Miss
Anna May Hoover on Satur-
day, Dec. 26.
David Urban is convalesc-
ing at his home after being
hospitalized for rheumatic
fever.
Ralph Williams, of Miami,
Fla., spent the holidays with
his parents.
Miss Marian Hiestand, a
student at Southeastern Bible
College, Birmingham, Ala.,
visited her parents during
the holidays.
The Athletic Club enter-
tained 78 youngsters of the
community at a Christmas
party on Saturday, Dec. 19.
The Cub Scouts held their
monthly meeting at the Am-
erican Legion home, Dec. 21.

service will be held in Saint
John’s Lutheran Church on
Wednesday evening. The
Rev. Thomas Bellis will be
the guest preacher.
Rotary Club
Hears Librarian
Harold Jenkins, librarian
of the Lancaster Free Public
Library, was the speaker on
Tuesday noon at the weekly
luncheon meeting of the
Mount Joy Rotary club, held
at Hostetters.
He told of the far-reach-
ing service that Mount Joy's
new Library Center can of-
fer, including providing
books and other material av-
ailable in libraries across the
country, if necessary.
He said that libraries in
the county make available
500,000 books.


Fire Damages
Nissly Home
Fire caused an estimated
$6,000 damage Friday, Janu-
ary 1, at the home of H. Roy
Nissly, South Market Ave.
Nissly made the damage
estimate and said he first dis-
covered the fire about 8:30 a.
m. when he smelled smoke
coming from the basement.
The Mount Joy and Florin
fire companies answered the
alarm and fought the blaze
for about half an hour, con-
taining it to the living room
of the home.
Fire chief John Lutz of
the Florin company said that
the blaze started in the furn-
ace stoker control in the base-
ment and followed framing
to the living room floor.
Later the same day, Mount
Joy firemen were called to
assist in fighting a blaze on
the Lloyd Shenenberger farm
on Manheim R2, where a
barn was destroyed.
The farm was tenanted by
the Edwin Myers family and
is located about two miles
west of Manheim.
RETIRED TEACHERS
The Lancaster Area Retir-
ed Teachers’ Assoc. will meet
at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12,
in the Hamilton Park United
Church of Christ, 1210 Map-
le Ave., Lancaster.
The program will include a
report of delegates to the
October P.R T.A. Convention,
Harrisburg; greetings by Mr.
Paul Faust, Harrisburg, Di-
rector of Southern Region of
R. T. A.; Readings by Miss
Mary Fritchey, Social Wel-
fare Chairman of the local
group; election and installa-
tion of officers.

USN, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James N. Pennell, 116 West
Main St., is serving aboard
the attack aircraft carrier
USS Franklin D. Roosevelt,
operating as a unit of the 6th
Fleet in the Mediterranean.
The Franklin D. Roosevelt
recently visited the port of
Cannes, France, where crew-
members had the opportunity
to see the French Riviera and
the French Alps.
