PATROLMAN
WANTED
The Mount Joy Police Service Commission will
be receiving applications for patrolman for he
Borough of Mount Joy. Applications may be re-
ceived from the Secretary at the Union National
Mount Joy Bank and returned upon completion
between July 30 and August 17. Applicants must
be between 21 and 40 years of age and a resident
of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. No ap-
plicant shall be admitied to an examination unless
he shall have prepared and filed an application
for said examination upon the form furnished by
the Commission.

and is recuperating at her

Glenn Stauffer of the Lan-
caster Camp of Gideons will
be the speaker on Sunday at
the morning worship service
at the Church of God.
Mr. and Mrs. Hap Houseal
and children are vacationing
at the seashore this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Elwood New-
comer and son and Mr. and
Mrs. Therman McNece atten-
ded the funeral service for
Charles Luzader at W. Vir-
ginia last week.
John R. Wolfe, King of
Prussia, spent Sunday with
Mrs. Mildred Wolfe.
Sylvia Foltz was one of
the participants in the Tony
Grant, “Stars of Tomorrow”
show on the Steel Pier at At-
lantic City last week. This
was their fourth consecutive
appearance.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fryber-
ger and daughter, Jane, Miss
Anna Albright were guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Coch-
ran and son, Richrd Albright
at Quarryville on Sunday.
Mrs. Ruth Blaebaum, of
York, visited Mrs. Mabel
Haverstick last week. Miss
Mildred Zink, Ardmore is
spending several days this
week with Mrs. Haverstick.

AID FIREMEN
John J. Pfaus, seaman ap-
prentice, USN, son of Mr.
and Mrs. William R. Pfautz,
Mount Joy R2, recently aided
in the fighting of a fire in
Villefranche, France, while
serving aboard the guided
missile cruiser USS Spring-
field in the Mediterranean.
Springfield’s crewmembers
aided local firemen in fight-
ing the blaze which threaten-
ed to engulf many of the old
villas in Villefranche.
The cause of the blaze is
not known but its progress
was aided by the explosion of
a land mine thought to have
been left from World War
I
Springfield is the flagship
of the Commander of the
Sixth Fleet in the Mediter-
ranean.
GRADUATED
Barry A. Stehman, airman
apprentice, USN, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Warren H. Steh-
man, Sr. of 619 Square street
recently was graduated from
Aviation Machinist’s Mate Jet
Engine course at the Naval
Air Technical Training Cene
ter, Memphis, Tenn.
He will be assigned duties
as a jet mechanic with the
aviation branch of the Navy
at sea and ashore.
The first “Around the
World” airplane flight was
made by Wiley Post and
Harold Gatty in 1931. The
distance was 15,488 miles and
the time was eight days, 15
hours, 51 minutes.
