Members left the church at 9:30 a.m. * * * The Couples Club of Zion Lutheran Church, Landisville met at Mount Joy, on Sunday May 3 at 8 p.m. for a group bowling party. Refreshments were served afterwards at the church. Koser, ninety, is president of the Lititz Mutual Insur- ance Co. and vice president of the Mount Joy Union Na- tional bank. Mrs. Koser was hospitaliz- ed last November and is still confined to bed at home while recuperating. Elliott, of 315 Stoney Battery Rd., Landis- ville has been named general chairman of the Boy Scouts’ 1964 Western District Camp- oree, scheduled for May 22-24 at Kiwanis Park in Elizabeth- town. More than 400 scouts from Lancaster city and county are expected to take part in camporee activities ranging from physical fitness exercis- es to merit badge demonstra- tions. ® * * The Hempfield Union school board met recently and adop- ted a tentative budget that is $200,000 higher than last year and will necessitate a four-mill property tax hike on a new tax. The proposed new tax will be a one percent real estate transfer tax. The tax rate will be jumped from 31 mills to 35 mills. * On Monday May 4, the em- ployees of Hempfield Union School district got chest x-rays. Because of these X- rays the children were dis- missed at 1:30 p.m. There was no afternoon kindergarten on the above date. School Calendar Is Adopted If, by chance, you are mak ing your vacation schedule or for some other reason you're interested — school will be- gin in Donegal distriet next fall on September 1. That was one of the feat- ures of the 1964-656 school calendar, which was adopted | Thursday night, April 16, at the April meeting of the Don- egal School Board. School will be recessed om November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving and from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 (both dates in- cluded) for Christmas. There will be no classes either Washington’s or Lin- coln’s birthdays and there will be Easter vacation April 14 through 19th, (both dates included). School will close on June 8, 1965. The schedule calls for 180 days for pupils. Attends Seminar Visual Training and Read- ing Achievement was the theme of the educational seminar held Sunday in Har- risburg at the Penn Harris Hotel by the Dept. of Educa- tion, Penna.
