We were skeptics — but
we have been convinced! It
really works! We find our-

be enjoyed, and with the.
most ‘“‘colorful’” months of
the year stretching just a-
head!

Lodge will be the Repub-
lican presidential candidate
in the November election!
That is, he would be, if
the eighth graders at the An-
nex could do the selecting!
In a “mock” election last
week, sections 8E and 8F de-
bated the merits and weak-
nesses of Goldwater, Lodge,
Nixon, Rockefeller, Scranton,
Smith and Stassen, and then
voted. :
Lodge got a total of 38
votes. Next was Nixon with
33, then Goldwater with 25,
Scranton with 15, Rockefel-
ler with 9, Smith and Stas-
sen with 3 each. Do “coming
events cast their shadows be-
fore?” Persaps so, even
though they are only eighth
grade “shadows”!

We understand that “chain
letters” are circulating wide-
ly in the Mount Joy areas at
the present time. We were
told that the bonanzas they
promise vary from land-
slides of ‘‘green stamps” to
tea towels!
Checking with the post-
office, we find that such let-
ters are “illegal” from the
official standpoint, but very
few people know it, so they
continue to participate in
the various ‘get rich quick”
schemes!

Q. My family moved recent-
ly, and now I'm the new girl
in a big school where I don’t
know a soul. There's a mixer
next week and I just know
that if I go I'll get the bench-
warmer award for 1964. My
mother says I should go, but
wouldn't it be better to wait
until I know at least a few
people?
A. The mixer can be your
chance to make a successful,
and painless, debut at the new
school. Simply because you
are new, . everyone will be
eager to meet you. To make
sure everything gets off to
the right start, be extra care-
ful about dressing for the
mixer. Wear something you
especially like, so you'll feel
your prettiest. And, of course,
check to make sure you know
what kind of dress is ex-
pected. Once there, don't be
shy about introducing your-
self to people. A cheertul, "Hi
I'm Mary Newgal,” is all the
starter you'll need.
Q. When I go to a tea or
any other party where people
leave at different times I
never know how to say good-
by to the hostess. Usually I
just hang around until I can
leave with other people and
leave the exit lines to them.
What should I say when I
have to leave alone?
A. Don’t feel you have to
make a speech. Just tell your

hostess that it was a lovely
party, and .thank her for ask-
ing you. That's really all you
need say to make a graceful
exit. After your first solo de-
parture, you'll find you don’t
need to depend on others to
say your goodbys.
Q. One of the couples I
baby sit for has a habit of
forgetting to come home. Last
time they were at a party and
weren’t back until 3:45 a.m.,
a'though they’d promised io
be no later than 2. They pay
me for the extra time, but it
doesn’t make up for the lost
sleep and worried parents.
Hew can I get these people
to remember their promises?
A. You'll have to state your
requirements very frankly
and clearly. Give them your
absciute deadline, and ex-
plain that you cannot work °
later than that time. If they
ignore this, they are not liv-
ing up to their part of the
einployer-sitter bargain, and
you'd best cross them off
your list of clients. It's usual-
iy best to leave the real night
owl business to older sitters,
