Place cake under the broiler
as far away from heat as pos-
sible, with heat -turned low.
Broil until mixture bubbles
all over the surface, being
careful not to burn it. Serve
warm or cold with or with-
out whipped cream.

APPLE ORANGE CAKE
215 cups canned apple
slices
1; cup butter or margarine
1 cup light brown sugar
Dash cinnamon
1 package yellow cake mix
Orange juice*
2 tablespoons grated
orange rind
Nutmeg
Drain apples. Melt butter
or margarine in 12x8x2-inch

apples in rows on sugar mix-
ture. Prepare cake mix accor-
ding to directions on ' pack-
age, substituting orange juice
for the liquid called for in
the recipe. Add the grated
orange rind. Then pour bat-
ter over apples in pan. Bake
in moderately hot oven, 375
degrees, 40 minutes. Cool 10
minutes in pan. Turn upside-
down on serving plate. Serve
hot or cold with whipped
cream, topped with dash of
nutmeg. Makes about 12 ser-
vings.
* Various brands of cake
mix specify varying quanti-
ties of liquid. So the amount
will vary with the mix used.
APPLE GINGERBREAD
21% cups applesauce
15 cup sugar
Package of gingerbread
mix
Whipped cream
Grated orang rind (or
lemon rind)
Combine apple sauce and
sugar; heat to boiling. Re-
move from heat and pour in-
to 8x8x2 oven skillet or cake
pan. Prepare gingerbread
batter according to directions
on package; pour over apple
sauce. Bake in moderate ov-
en, 350 degrees, 30 to 40
minutes or until gingerbread
is done. Sprinkle whipped
cream with grated orange- or
lemon rind. Serve over warm
gingerbread. Makes 6 serv-
ings.

1 3-0z. package strawberry
gelatin
1 cup hot water
1 cup canned fruit syrup
1 #303 can (2 cups) fruit,
drained
1 3-0z. package cream
cheese
Pour 1 cup hot water over
strawberry gelatin and stir
until it is completely dissolv-
ed. Add 1 cup of syrup
drained from the canned
fruit. Place gelatin in refrig-
erator to partially congeal.
Then fold in drained fruit,
which has been cut in pieces.
Pour fruit gelatin into eight
individual heart molds and
place in refrigerator to con-
geal. Put a 3-oz. package of
cream cheese (taken directly
from refrigerator) in a cooky
