WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER
30, 1963
There were Richard Mil-
ler's little tow-headed twin
girls, dressed alike in their
blue cowgirl outfits, sitting
on the sidelines watching
their big sister, Darlene, ride
a good race on “Snow Boy.”
There was Clarence Auker
giving a fine performance on
Robert Schroll’'s beautiful
little Welsh pony stallion,
“Midnight.”
There were little children
along the sidelines, tired of
watching the races, so in-
venting little races of their
own among themselves, coms
plete with starters and judge
es!
There was lots of visiting
among the spectators, and
the occasional query, “Have
you heard how Donegal is
making out with Manheim
Township?
It was a wonderful afters
noon for our horseless, but
horse-loving Libby, because
she got to touch and pet al-
most every horse and pony
there, and even ride on two
of them!

Had you noticed that the
Halloween decorations = are
more interesting than usual
this year?
We have seen
original pumpkin faces grins
ning at us from porches a=
long the way. At one home
jack-o-lanterns have been
hung over the porch lights
at either side of the door,
giving an eerie effect.
But the pumpkin-faced
scarecrow at the Shelly home
on Donegal Springs Road,
takes our prize! He is life-
sized, with outstretched arms,
well-stuffed shirt and over
alls, and a pumpkin head in
which a light goes off and on!
some very
To top it all, there is a big
black umbrella over his
“head” to protect him if we
should have rain!

And so it went. Each ar-
rangement was so perfect
that it looked as if it could
be the subject for a beautiful
“still = life” painting. The
stained glass windows had
been opened just far enough
to let the bright October sun-
light come through onto the
little ‘‘pictures” and give
them warmth and life. It
was a truly lovely sight, and
one we will not quickly for-
get.
