A WANA >
THE CHURCH FOR ALL...
ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest fae-
tor on earth for the building of
character and good citizenship. It
is a storehouse of spiritual values.
Without a strong Church, neither
democracy nor civilization can
survive. There are four sound
reasons why every person should
attend services regularly and sup-
port the Church. They are: (n
For his own sake. (2) For his
children’s sake. (3) For the sake
of his community and nation. (4)
For the sake of the Church itself
which needs his moral and ma-
sl support lan to go to
church regularly ai A

kindness, and tolerance
Childhood is a brief span in the bridge of life.
Yet it is during the early years that we lay the
foundation for all that is to come.

Church School is over, and Eileen and
Johnny linger on the church steps, talking
about the lessons they've learned this morning.
They both are excited because, under their
teacher's guidance, the stories of the Bible are
beginning to come alive for them.
We're not going to predict a “happy ever
after” ending. We're not going to say that hav-
ing met in Church School, Eileen and Johnny
will go on seeing each other in church each
week and that ultimately they'll grow up, fall
in love, and get married. (Though, who knows?
Maybe they will at that!)

St. Paul called himself “chief” of sinners. Luther
considered himself the same. Isn't it inconceivable that
people influenced by such men would ever “worship” the men themselves? or “venerate”
them? or “invoke” them? or “canonize” them? or give any human being any share of
the glory that is due to God alone?

How, then, do Lutherans think of Luther?
a]

Like many other servants of the Most High, Luther was chosen, prepared and
guided by the Holy Spirit for a specific task.

And because of the urgency and the immensity of Luther's task, God granted to
him a special profoundness of insight into the Gospel,

That is why today few if any religious writers outside of Scripture are studied
throughout the world as widely as Luther. For the past half-century, a veritable “Luther
renaissance” has engrossed scholars of every denomination. Most of today’s leading
theologians in every Protestant church reflect many of Luther's insights.
