those who “accept what God wants to give.”
But Lutherans also realize that again and again
throughout history, men have tried to dilute that which
God most wants to give: The Gospel of Christ.
And because the Gospel is the power through
which God works in man, Lutherans know that any
“watering down” of the Gospel is a blasphemy against God and a danger to human
souls.

That is why Lutherans are not among those who say, “One church is the same as
the next!” or, “It doesn’t make much difference what you believe, just so you believe!”
If you drink strychnine, believing it to be cough syrup, it makes a ¢rreat deal
of difference. .
And if you trust your own goodness, believing God to satisfied with it — or, if
you belittle God-on-a-cross, believing Him to be merely a fine moral example — that
makes a great deal of difference, too. An eternal difference!
That is why both children and adults are thoroughly instructed in the faith before
being received as Lutheran communicants. It does make a difference what you believe!
