Sittin on the back porch the other

behind the green trees on the hill,

1 got to thinkin how insects are the
greatest enemy of our forests. Con-
trol of tree-killing insects and bugs
is a problem for scientists and
foresters, but I got to considering
how we can help by cleanin out
over-crowded stands and harvest-
ing timber before it gets over ripe.
And everytime I clipped a mos-
quito I could almost imagine a tree
doin the same in the forest on the
hillside.

TEENS OF OUR TIMES
Mr. Smith:
The teens of Mount Joy
are the future citizens that
someday will be the burgess,
the borough council, the bor-
ough authority, and school
board Ask yourself this
question - Are we giving our
future citizens the best ideas
and activities available? If
you answer this question
truthfully you would have to
say No' I realize you and a
few others are behind us one
hundred per cent What
must we do to prove to ev
eyone else that we are not a
worthless bunch of juveniles.
We have good ideas and good
intentions, but how can we
develop our ideas without
the facilities to do so??

This is one way of widening
our cultural instincts It
goes to Marietta — What's
wrong with the citizens of
Mount Joy? Do they feel that
the standards of Mount Joy
and area are so high that we
don’t need libraries, band
concerts, recreational activi-
ties for all ages? Sure, we
have a fine and enriching
playground, program. But
what happens, when you're
too old to attend that? The
play ground supervisors are
trying to help the teen-agers
by holding 2 or 3 dances
throughout the summer.
Can’t they see that 6:00 at
night is way too early to ex-

We get flash storms where I live.
Whenever they spring up I like to
sit next to the window and watch
the lightning scurry across the
heavens. 1 don't worry too much
about lightning causing forest fires.
People cause more fires than light-
ning and we can do something
about that. It might be if we'd
make people see it's more fun to
play with a whole tree than just
a match we'd have less worry.
