POLITICAL POLITICAL
The Case For
The Open Primary
A political party belongs to the PEOPLE who are its
members.
They. AND THEY ALONE, have the right to decide
its destiny.
They do this by their vote in the party's Primary
Election, where, BY FREE CHOICE OF BALLOT, they sel-
ect from those of their fellow-members who aspire to
public office the candidates THEY wish to represent
THEM in the General. Election.
I firmly believe that the “open” Primary strengthens
a political party, and in the long run, strives to promote
the best interests of ALL citizens regardless of party.
»:
Some do not agree.
Their idea of an ideal primary is one in which the
organization's “slate” faces little or no opposition and
the voters take little or no interest. Thus, by default,
they are assured continued party control.
I offer my candidacy for the Senate as a CHAL-
LENGE to these politicans who would ignore the historic
right of free. men to vote for the candidates of their choice.
I offer myself as a candidate QUALIFIED for the of-
fice, Those qualifications are a matter of PUBLIC REC-
ORD.
If nominated and elected, I shall serve as I cam-
paign—FREELY and INDEPENDENTLY — FEARLESSLY
and WITHOUT FAVOR. .
I offer my candidacy for the Republican nomination
for State Senator for Lebanon and part of Lancaster
Counties to those who share my faith in the future of our
Party and in the inalienable right of its members to de-
termine that future.
IT IS YOUR ENDORSEMENT I SEEK.
