Rules and Regulations
1. Any reputable resident of this city or surround- *
ing territory is eligible to enter the contest and
compete for prizes and receive weekly commission
checks.
2. No salaried office employee of this newspaper
is eligible to enter contest. This does not apply to
country correspondents.
3. Winners of main prizes will be determined by
(a) their earned votes, said votes being represented
by ballots issued for bona fide new and renewal sub-
ceriptions, and 4b) free coupons clipped from this
newspaper—said coupons to be printed in this and
our next three issues in denomination of 100 votes
each this and next week; 50 votes each the third
week, 10 votes each the fourth week and then dis-
continued. No more than ten coupons of each denomi-
nation will be credited to any one contestant.
4, Participants in this subscription drive are not
confined to their own town or community in which
secure new or renewal subscriptions, but may
take orders anywhere in this section; or, for that
matter, anywhere else.
5. Votes are issued free. It costs the subscriber
nothing extra to cast their votes for any contestant.
Votes must be asked for at the time of paying sub-
scription, however, otherwise subscriber waives this
v ilege.
G6. Votes once issued are not transferable. Con-
stants cannot pool their votes in favor of another
ontestant. Should a contestant withdraw from the
ace, his or her accumulated votes will be cancelled.


7. Any dishonesty or collusion on the part of con-
stants to nullify competition, or any other com-
ination formed to the detriment of other partici-
mts or this newspaper will not be tolerated.

13. All active participants will be paid twenty
percent cash commission ($1 out of $5) of their in-
dividual subscription collections each week as it ac-
erues. It is to be understood, however, that in the
event any contestant becomes inactive (failing to
make weekly reports) his or her name will be re-
moved from the published list of contestants until
such time as participant again becomes active.
14. It is understood and agreed that the winners
of first and second prizes will consider their weekly
pay checks in the light of an “advance,” which are
returnab'e upon presentation of prize—thus obviat-
ing double compensation. This does nat apply to
third, fourth, fifth and sixth bonus check winners.
15. To insure absolute fairness in the awarding
of prizes, the race will be brought to a close with
a sealed ballot box. During the entire last “period”
of the drive, a ballot box—Ilocked and officially scaled
—will be placed in the vaults of a local bank, where
contestants themselves may deposit their final col-
lections and reserve votes in utmost secrecy. In this
way no one—not even the publisher or contest man-
ager—can possibly know the actual strength of the
various which precludes any possibility
of favoritism and insures fairness to the minutest
degree.
16. Twenty-five thousand extra votes will be given
contestants for each 5-year subscription (or exten-
sion from previous contest subscription payment to
5-years) turned in by them during their first week
in contest, and during third week of the drive half
as many special extra votes will be issued on same
basis.
