Firemen Show
Magnesium |
Fire Fighting
Firemen from thirteen com-
panies participated in a mag-
nesium fire fighting demonstra-
tion Sunday afternoon at the
grounds formerly occupied by
the old Mount Joy School, on|
Marietta Avenue.
The men fought the magne-
sium fire with both high pres-
sure fog and low pressure fog.
According to Ray Myers, there
is no known extinguisher for
magnesium except sand. There-
fore, the men learned which is
the best way to fight the mag-
nesium in order to cool it. Af-
ter it has cooled, it burns out.
After Sunday’s demonstration
the men discovered that the
low pressure fbg is the more
effective.
Fire trucks from Mount Joy,
Flerin, Elizabzthtown, Marietta
and Landisville were on hand
for the affair plus firemen from
Rheems, Mastersonville, May-
town and thé Columbia Com-|
panies. The demonstration was
sponsored by Zone 7 firemen.
