Reed, Adm. cta., |for the Mary Wormley Estate, | Dupes, Auct., Reserved For You Program Offers Courses Hope! g afore Enlistments | When opportunity knocks a second time for the same indi- vidual, he considers himself |really lucky. The Army has [come up with a program that [has opportunity knocking not |once, not twice but more than {a hundred times, it wasrannounc- led ed by M/Sgt. Charles |berger, NCO in-charge of - the local Army Recruiting ‘Station, | Post Office Bldg, Lancaster, | Directed at the high school [senior and recent graduates, Sgt. Sonberger said this ‘Reserved for You” program gives quali- fied applicants the choice of more than 100 technical courses BEFORE they enlist in the Reg- {ular Army. If all requirements are met and a vacancy exists in lone of the desred courses, the young man or woman applying 'will be signed up for an Army enlistment — with a written guaranty of class enrollment in hand! : The recruiting Sergeant went {on to say, here's another inter- esting angle on the program: The applicant is not obligated to enlist even after he or she has been accepted for the pro- gram. Acceptance merely means that the person has been found eligible for a vacancy. The de- cision on taking the technical training is still his to make. If {the applicant chooses to enlist, he goes into the Army with a career course reservation. | Courses range from atomic {weapons and automotive repair to photography and wire main- tenance. There is schooling to lead to specialization in every (field of interest | Sgt. Sonberger said that there is a 48-page school catalog, en- titled “Reserved for You”, is av- ailable free of charge at the lo- cal Army Recruiting Station lo- cated at The Post Office, Lancas- ter, Pa. or phone 47724. This book describes cach of the cours- es in the program, plus prere- quisites for the Army enlistment and course enrollment. — ) —— - Freshen Old Furniture UCH old furniture still is use- ful, but its appearance is against it. Yet, it’s too good to give away and not old enough to be con- sidered antique. What can be done? A bit of ingenuity and effort will transform an old dresser into a thing of modern beauty — and at small cost. Note the “before and after” sketches of the same dresser. There's quite a change! In general, removal of the gin. gerbread from the dresser is the | first step in the renovation. A re- | | *essed wood base, instead of legs, covered with Green asbestos shingles. Six Rooms and Bath on {electric Kelvinator refrigerator, | does much to modernize the piece. Most likely, the top has been | scarred. Easiest cure is the addi- | tion of a panel of Masonite Tem- pered Presdwood, 14” thick. This then may be primed and painted. Alternates might be black Presd- wood, or Leatherwood, a textured hardboard. One of the gay plastic- surfaced hardboards would be suit- able, too, as they are resistant to stains and cigarette burns. Various colors and patterns in Marlite are available. Matching may be looking 1 material, if needed, used to re-cover dingy- drawer fronts. Standard 3" Presdwood is excellent for re- Throw |curtain’ stretcher, and numerous |Pl2cing cracked drawer bottoms | and dresser backs. | errs ini | UNFORTUNATE AND AGED Since the foundation of the | Republic, we have recognized and practiced both private and government responsibility for the unfortunate and the aged; |for the education of our youth and the health of our people. | —Herbert Hoovey Son- Sr ARs Typewrit Registers New & | High St. 9 piece room su ings at REDUC PHOTO SES N New mc with cas 10% to Klahr ( Middlet FOR & Tires, A to Parts town 1 Phone 1 AUTOM! buy old and also Spittler, SE New & W. 4 Phone SEWIN SALE: for all ines.
