In McCue and Wilson they re-

superior in ball handling and
driving.
Let's look at the 53-54 squad.
This team had a distinct heighi
advantage over the 50-51 team.
The over-all shooting was sur-
perior. Although this was Zel-
ler’s first varsity season and
Weber was only a sophomore,
the team kept improving and it
resulted in a title game.

~~ Under The
Basket
The end of a glorious season
came to a dismal finish as the
Mount Joy Rams lost the State
6 Championship Class C Play-off
game to a fine West Middlesex
| team by the score of 74 to 58.
Although they
in the “big” game, the people
came to the rescue of the play-
ers as they walked dejectedly
from the court. After all didn’t
1500 fans journey 280 miles to
cheer the Rams to victory.
Their sincere handclasp, em-
brace and words of kindness
was enough to bring tears to
the eyes of the coach and play-
ers. It was the fans way of tell-
ing the team what they thought
of them.
Now let's return to the play
of the game.
West Middlesex opened strong
by moving to an 8 point lead at
the end of the first quarter 22-
14. During this time Jones, a
thorn in the side of Mount Joy
all evening, had hit for 7 goals
in 9 attempts.*The result of this
shooting had the fans in an up-
roar, but it was only the begin-
ning. The opponents retained
their “shooting eye” during the
second quarter as they extend-
ed their lead to 15 points. In do-
ing this they made 17 goals in
23 attempts for a 72.6%. A good
team makes 35 to 40 percent.
You can see how West Middle-
sex was shooting.
During the first half, Jay
Metzler accounted for 6 of the
9 goals scored by the Rams. All
these goals were made on re-
bounds since not one single pass
was completed to Metzler.
It was an even game during
the Second Half as the Rams
were outscored 35-34. Jones and
Palmer scored 11 of i5 field
goals scored by West Middlesex
during these two periods.
Metzler and Weber were {er-
rific on the boards all evening.
As coach of the Mount Joy
thank Mr. Beahm, Mr. Schoen-
er, Mr. Broske and John Lichty
for the help and sincere interest
that they had in the boys. Mr.
Broske and Mr. Schoener help-
ed scout a few of our opponents.

cided asset in assisting me with

How to Even Up Chair Legs
HEN a chair is out of level, one |
method of evening the legs is to |
trim the legs which are wo long. A |
simple mcthod of performing this
tricky operation is described in
Handyman.

Form a tube of paper, fastening it
together with paste. Now slip it over
one leg, cutting off the tube at the
exact tip of the leg as the other end
rests on the rung.
To assure getting cach leg the iden-
tical length, slip the tube over each
other one in turn, marking them to
the same length. Now adjust the length |
of the tube to the shortest leg and mark |

all others for cutting.

ECONOMY
If necessary to economize

by using one-half tablespoon of
cornstarch for each egg omitted. |

The much traveled Rams (850
miles from Monday through
Saturday) returned to a tremen-
dous welcome-home celebration.
The school band. Carol Smith, |
the leader, was on hand to meet
the returning players. The Lan-
caster Newspapers estimated
400 people who turned-out for
this celebration, but I believe
600 would be closer.
Jack Toppin deserves
much
credit as the organizer of the
welcome-home party. Many
thanks to those who furnished
the truck with the loud speaker
and the convertibles. All of you
have been truly wonderful.
As I write these last few lines
concerning the Mount Joy Rams
my eyes grow misty as I realize
that it will never be written a-
gain. As coach of the Rams, I
sincerely wish to thank all
those who were with us during
the season. Especially the three
barbers at Shatto’s barber shop,
George Shatto, Charley Roth,
and Al Huck. I select these men
since I remember their sincere
following four years ago and
their sincere criticism of me
during a friendly visit. You fel-
lows will never be forgotten by
McCue, Wilson, Bowman, Mil-
