Special Post Office Mt. Joy Boy To
Hours Issued
Since the Mount Joy Post Of-
fice has already passed the 1952
total in volume, this year’s vol-
ume is expected to pass the $80-
,000 mark. Last year's total was
$77,693.33 as of December 31,
1952. As of Wednesday, Dec. 16,
1953, the total was $5,000 over
last year’s total it was announc-
ed by Elmer Zerphey, acting
postmaster. This total does not
include all the Christmas mail-
ing for the next week and a
half. According to the employ-
ees, there has not been too great
a rush for Christmas mailing as
yet.
This volume will set
all-time record for the
post office and will double the
volume of 1947. In fact, the
volume this year is 140% great-
a new
local
er than the 1947 volume!
This record-breaking report
does not come from any new
business or industry within the
area. According to statistics, the
increase has been gradually go-
ing upward everywhere within
the district.
Post office hours have been is-
sued by the Mount Joy Post of-
fice for Christmas mailing. As
of vesterday, all windows ex-
cept the money order window
will be openfrom 7a m to 6
p. m. The money order window
will be open from 9 a. m. to 5
p. m. Mondays through Fridays
and 9 a. m. to 12 noon Satur-
day.
There will be no sarvice of
any kind Sunday, December 20
and Christmas day.
In preparing cards for mail-
ing, please keep the “out of
town” separated from the local
cards. If possible, put rubber
bands around each pack and
hand them to the clerks at the
windows. This saves time since
the cards do not have to be sep-
arated or picked out of the box
one at a time. The cooperation
of the public would be appre-
ciated and would help in speed-
ing up delivery.

Scout Executive
Speaks To Lions
Robert Hamilton, Field Scout
Executive for Boy Scouts of
America, Lancaster County
Council Incorporated, was the
guest speaker at the bi-monthly
meeting of the Florin Lions
Club Monday evening. Mr. Ha-
milton discussed Scouting and
elaborated on the fact that al-
though there is no financial gain
there satisfaction derived
from working with and helping
to mold the character of boys.
He went on to say that Scouting
is a partnership and that Scout-
ing councils will not own any
Scouting units. The units must
be supported by various organi-
zations. He also showed slides
showing the phenomonal growth
of scouting since 1910 which
showed that there are now over
three million Boy Scouts in the
United States.
The group decided to sponsor
a community carol sing, Decem-
ber 24, 7:00 p. m. between the
is
bank and the store. The Florin
churches will be participating
in this affair. Arrangements
were also made to hold a Xmas
party for the members and
their families to be held at
Platt’s Play Barn, Silver Spring

on Monday evening, Dec. 21st,
7 p. m.
