Mount Joy, Pa., Thursday Afternoon, January

Merger To Divide School District;
Upper Half Of Mount Joy Twp.
Will Go To Efzabethiown

At a meeting held last Thurs
day in Mount Joy the Directors
of the Donegal Joint School |
took action to make the lower
half of Mount Joy Township an|
official member of the jointure.
The boards solicitor, William
B. Arnold, was instructed to
revise the articles of agreement
and have it ready at the Febru-|
ary meeting.
Upper Half Go ..To E’town
Township Directors informed
the Schoolboard that a decision
had been reached to divide the °
township for school purposes,
sending pupils of the upper half
of the district to jointure
gchools in the Elizabethtown
area while those in the lower
section will be absorbed in the
Donegal population. |
Mount Joy Twp. directors
are negotiating with the direc-|
tors of Elizabethtown borough, |
West Donegal and Conoy Twps. |
for admission of the upper]
half.
Proposal Fails
A. D. Seiler, president of the
school board, presented a pro-
posal to change the procedure
for voting on major issues, to
coincide with
recommended under the state
school code. However, this pro- |
sup- |
posal failed to receive a
porting vote. Under the pro-
posal, it was suggested that a
favorable vote of two-thirds of,
the boards, in addition to the'
majority
major issues. At the present
time, approval by all boards is
required.
Although near-perfect har-
mony exists at the present time,
Seiler pointed out, there is
possibility of certain evils in
the future” if controversies de-
velop.
To Select School Staff
In submitting the agenda for
February and March sessions,
Seiler asked the directors be
prepared to take action in th
selection of a school odoin
tration staff. He set March as!
the deadline for this action.
The school building authori- |
ty disclosed that the new 12- in.
water main to the school site is
completed.

The entertainment was un-
der the auspices of Mr. Morrell
Shields, music teacher at East

the fifes. Following this, Ronny
McKain, Jack McKain, West

Paul Kaufman, East Donegal
Twp., presented novelty enter-
tainment by playing selections
on bottles filled with water.
There were all sizes of bot-

certain height which gave the
bottle the musical note desired.
This was an unusual novelty
orchéstra and was thoroughly
enjoyed.
