Thursday Evening
The sixteenth annual ninth grade
promotion program will be held on
Thursday evening, May 29 in the
East Donegal High School. The
student speakers for the affair will
be Ruth Drescher, Barbara Martin,
Patsy Hawthorne, John Hershey
and Robert Bailey. They will speak
on “Prominent Contemporary Lan-
castrians.” James Kinsey, class
president, will give the address of
welcome and Jack MecKain will
render a saxophone solo.
The Rev. W. H. Wagner, pastor
of the Maytown Church of God,
will deliver the invocation and the
Rev. W. M. Allison, pastor of the
Maytown Lutheran Church, will

Open house was held Sunday,
May 18th, by the daughters, of Mrs.
Sarah Espenshade, in honor of her
eightieth birthday.
It was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Latchford, Pine
street. Guests were present from
Philadelphia, Bethlehem, Elizabeth-
town, Bainbridge, Coplay, Fal-
mouth, Lancaster and Mount Joy.

LOCAL PASTOR MAKES PLEA
IF'OR RELEASE OF JOHNSON
The state pardon board was ask-
ed to free a 27-year-old Lancaster
man who is serving a 15 to 30-year
prison term on robbery and rape
charges.
The plea was made by the Rev. |
Joseph W. Gantt, pastor of the!
Bethel A. M. E. Churches of Mari-
ctta and Mount Joy, in behalf of
Nathaniel Johnson.
Johnson was sentenced in Lan-
caster County Court on Sept. 12th,
1942. He is serving his sentence in
the State Penitentiary.
