Open Sept. 5 With
8 New Teachers
Eight “new” teachers will assume
their duties when the East Donegal
Twp. schools reopen Wednesday,
September 5 at 9 A. M. They are
Mr. I. Diller Miller, Art teacher;
Miss Phyllis Morrison, health and
girls physical education; Mr. Rob-
ert Shaffer, vocational agriculture;
Miss Irene Sloat, vocational home-
making; Mr. Roy Armold, commer-
cial-social studies: Mrs. Mary Em-
ma Llewellyn, Latin - English -
librarian and Miss Pearl Dohner,
Maytown grade one. One vacancy
still remains to be filled—a teacher
for the Maytown fourth grade. It is
expected that this vacancy will be
filled at a special meeting of the
school board to be held Friday ev-
ening, August 24. Mrs. Naomi Hou-
seal, commercial teacher, will also
assume her former duties after a
year’s leave of absence.
Mr. Miller, of Quarryville, is a
graduate of the Philadelphia Mu-
seum School of Art and was form-
erly employed by the Pennsylvania
Water and Power Company. He
succeeds Mrs. Donald Sheaffer,
vho resigned last spring.
Miss Phyllis Morrison, Ridley
Park, is a graduate of West Chester
State Teachers College. She is em-
ployed this summer as a counsellor
at Echo Hill Camp. She succeeds
Miss Winifred Houck who resigned
last spring to accept a position at
Chambersburg.
Mr. Robert Shaffer, of Hoovers=
ville, is a graduate of Penn State
College and he succeeds Mr. Gene
Love, who resigned to accept a fel-

took place Saturday in Alaska.
The bride is a airline hostess and
the groom is stationed in Alaska
with the U. S. Air Force. They ex-
pect to come to the States in Oc-
tober when the groom will be as-
signed duty here.

gene Eshleman Myers, of Lancaster
RS, son of Mrs. C. H. Koser, of Lan~
disville, took place Saturday in
Washington Memorial Chapel, Val
ley Chapel, Valley Forge.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father, and was attended by
Mrs. James A. Witter of Lancaster,
as matron of honor. James A. Wit-
ter served as best man for the
bridegroom.

ROSSER CONSTRUCTION HERE
AWARDED CONTRACT
The Rosser Construction Com-
pany, of town was awarded a $141,-
223.65 contract for road improve-
ments in the Hazelton area, the
Pennsylvania Department of High-
ways has annouced.
The contract is for 109 miles of
chrushed aggregate base with bi-
tuminous surface 24 feet wide on
legislative route 170 spur, city of
Hazleton and West Hazleton boro.

TEXTILE BUSINESS OFF
There has been such a recession
in the textile business that over
2,000 workers in Lancaster County
alone, are idle. At Marietta and
Columbia, plants work every other
week. J

Wilson S. Krady
Died In Dauphin
County Aged 80
Wilson Stoner Krady, eighty, a
former well known resident of this
vicinity, died on Friday near Han-
overdale, Dauphin County. He was
born in Lancaster County, a son of
the late John and Magdalena
Stoner Krady. He was a member
of Palmyra Church of the Brethren.
Many years ago Mr. Krady con-
ducted a nursery on the Manheim
road, two miles east of here. La-
ter he purchased a plot of ground
along the north side of the Lincoln
Highway a short distance beyond
Maple Grove. Here he erected a
dwelling and established a nursery.
Later he moved to Palmyra
where he was engaged in the nurs«
ery business and landscape gard-
ening. A' few years ago he was em-
ployed at Ruhl's greenhouses here.
He is survived by his wife, Lou-
ise Martin Krady, and these chil-
dren; the Rev. Daniel S. Krady, of
Willow Street; John H. Krady, Co-
lingswood, N. J.; Henry M. Krady,
Landisville; Martha M., wife of
John Summy, Campbellstown, Pa.;
Miriam M., wife of Raymond B.
Heisey, Hummelstown R1; J. W.
Krady, Palmyra, and S. Irene, wife
of Alva Saufley, Hummelstown R2,
with whom he resided.
Funeral services were held from
the Palmyra Church of the Breth-
ren Wednesday afternoon with in-

HERR 4-H CHAMPIONS
A Lancaster county team won the
Pennsylvania 4-H championship in
flower identification at the 27th
annual 4-H Club Week August 13
to 16 at the Pennsylvania State
College.
This team was coached by Mrs.
Ethel Herr, Mt. Joy R1, One of the
Club Leaders in the E-town-Done-
gal 4-H Community Club.
Team members are Doris Bross-
man, Ephrata; Anna Greenleaf, Ox~
ford, R. D.,, and Inez Althouse, of
Ephrata. They finished in that or-
der in individual judging.

28 CARDS RESTORED
Fifty-four motorists from this vi«
cinity had their cards withdrawn
for motor code infractions last
week by the Bureau of Highway
Safety, Harrisburg. Twenty-eight
other drivers from this area had
their driving privileges restored.
Those to lose their driving privil-
eges were Mrs. Geraldine K. Good,
Elizabethtown; Melvin Ressler,
Mount Joy R2; Robert E. Nye,
Bainbridge R1; A. S. Plummer, El-
izabethtown; Asher W. Witmer and
J. Nelson Newcomer, of this place,
all for speeding.


Forney’s Store at
Florin, Was Sold
The L. G. Forney & Co. general
store at Florin changed ownership
last Thursday and is now being op-
erated by Mr. and Mrs. Sidney B.
Smith of Lincoln Highway West.
Mr. Smith purchased the real
estate, consisting of the store build-
ing and two apartments, store fix-
tures and business at private sale
and on private terms.
Mr. L. G. Forney, who conducted
the business there since 1934, is
now residing at Mount Gretna and
has no definite plans for the future.
Mr. Forney recently renovated
the store, installing two large mod-
ern show windows. It will be known
as Smith’s General Store.
Prior to becoming a general
storekeeper, Mr. Smith was em-
ployed at Lancaster.

The James Webb family will hold
its 4th reunion August 26 at the
Rheems Fire Co. grounds. The pro-

gram will begin at 3:30 p. m.

PLEAD GUILTY, GIVEN 2 TO 4
YEARS IN EASTERN PEN.
Paul Rodger Weller, twenty-four,
Elizabethtown R1, formerly of Mid-
dleburg, Snyder county, pleaded
guilty to attacking a 16-year-old
Newville girl on August 4 and was
sentenced to two to four years in
the Eastern State Penitentary and
fined $100 and costs.
State Policeman Walter H. Miller
said Weller, who had been drinking
at a Newville grabbed
the girl by the throat, struck her
in the mouth and hurled her into a
ditch. A passing motorist prevent=
ed the girl from
Weller fled into the woods and was
apprehended later by State Police
near Selinsgrove, Snyder County.
Weller, on probation from Snyder
County for unlawful possession of
a truck, had been living with rel-
atives at Newville for only a short
time and was employed at an Eliz-
abethtown shoe factory.
He was charged with assault and
battery and assault with intent to
