play in the streets or close to traffic. They should not,
but they do, and you—the driver—must face the facts.
You must be doubly alert lest you run down a child
who, in the excitement of play, darts like a flash into
the street.

Try a Comfmunity Nest
| Nov is the time for all good poultry |
| raisers to install community nests |
| for better ‘production and cleaner eggs! |

Installation of community nests in place
| of the small box type will decrease the
number of dirty and broken eggs by 50
per cent,
A community nest, like the one shown,
should have one square foot of nesting
space for every five hens. Two nests of
this sort will accommodate 80 birds.
There are several ways to use these |
community nests, which are covered with §

long-lasting, -peck-proof Masonite Presd.
wood. They may be placed against the
wall where the sloping roof will prevent |
roosting on top. Two may be placed back |
to back anywhere in the poultry house. |
| In that case, use a reel over the ridge to
prevent roosting.
The nest illiistrated is four feet long,
but it may be made any length desired.
If nests are more than eight feet long,
however, a partition should separate
| them into four or five-foot sections, with
an entrance for each.
Have community nests in the house
when pullets begin to lay. They will use
them more readily when beginning to
lay than after forming a habit of laying
{ in partitioned nests. ,
{| For a free plan, to construct this easily-
| made community; nest, write Farm Serv-
ice Bureau, 111 West Washington St.,
Chicago 2, Ill, and ask for AFB-204,
