WRESTLING MATCHES WILL
START AT HERSHEY JUNE 13
Hershey, June 6, For the first
time in her 13-year reign as wom-
en’s wrestling champion, Mildred
Burke will be forced to share top
billing when Promoter Bert Bert-
olini presents his inaugural grap-
pling program at the Hershey
Sperts Arena, Wednesday evening,
June 13.
As announced previously, the 33
year-old, five-feet-two, 135-pound
Miss Burke will meet Ann LaVerne
of Canton, Ohio, in one of the co-
starred main events.
In the other, Antonio (Argentino)
Rocca, generally recognized as the
unerowned champion of matdoom,
will exchange grips with the 262-
pound Frederick Von Schacht, the
ex-G. I. from Milwaukee. In re-
cent months, Von Schacht has been
compiling an impressive string of
conquests and Bertolini is confident
the giant German - he is six feet
six inches tall - will be able to give
the South America Italian a real
argument.
Rocca, of course, is no stranger
tc Eastern Pennsylvania wrestling
addicts. He made frequent appear-
ances on Bertolini-promoted mat
programs in Harrisburg, Reading
and Allentown, and seldom failed
to attract capacity crowds.
Discovered by Kola Kwariani,
one of Russia's all-time wrestling
greats, in South America years ago,
Rocca is undefeated since starting
his wrestling invasion of the U. S.
on March 22, 1949, when he pinned
Chief Little Fox in a main event
at Turner's Arena, in Washington,
D.C.
Von Schacht has been defeated
on numerous occassions, but never
by a fall. His aggressive tactics
and fiery temper have led to his
downfall by disqualification. He is
known in wrestling circles as “the
man with the perpetual sneer”.
Bertolini announced that reser-
vations for reserved seat tickets for
this mat extravaganza, which will
be the first of a series of semi-
monthly shows here, now are av-
ailable at the Hershey Sports Arena
and the Shenk and Tittle Sporting
Goods Store in Harrisburg. ¥
