t—The Bulletin, Mt OWL LAFFS BV A WISE OWL Now fellows here's really one for | the hooks. You fishermen and hunt- | ers who succeeded in getting a di- ploma from the Tall Story Club ain't. heard nothin’ yet I know you never saw one but did you ever hear of rabbits that actually have five speeds—forward, reverse, right or left and up. Well, we've got ‘em. The .other day I saw one stop suddenly and zig to the right, thén leap in the air. Another zig- ged to the left stopped and went into reverse for a few leaps, turn- ed a back somersault and went the other way to beat blazes. None of them will run as the average rab- bit does. ' A few days later an auto hit and killed one of them and believe you me I performed a very close post mortem, and sure ‘as my name is | Wiseheimer I discovered the very unusual cause for those queer an- tics. Two years ago an active mem- ber of our Sportsmen's Association, Paul Diffenderfer, one of the Bul- letin's Quiz Kids, cause he knows all the answers, gave the editor a cactus plant. We nursed it like a child and like Mr. Finney’s turnip, it grew and grew and grew. One mbnth ago it had attained real size—with a dozen leaves a- bout as big as a man’s hand with about one million and eleven thorns on each leaf. In addition it had three large buds about ready to burst open in yellow profusion. Now comes the funny part. With some of the choicest clover grow- ing all around, the rabbits got] courage enough to bite of the ends of several of those thick juicy cactus leaves and after they got | that taste they really devoured the leaves, thorns and all, about like Paul, Toots, and several other gus) ate John Eshelman’s chicken creole after a day’s deer hunt at Buck Ridge Lodge in Perry County sev- eral years ago. Well, with a belly full of cactus thorns, can you imagine what you could do if, every move of your body those thorns would prick you here, there and everywhere. That's what was wrong with those dern rabbits that acted so funny. But the fun hasn't really started yet Since Diffenderfer is indirectly the cause of the whole shebang. I am gonna 'invite him down to shoot | those critters. You can all imagine what that will be like. When I told him about it he said he'll shoot at em, but he will eith- er get a riot gun from the State Police or have A. D. Garber weld a funnel in the end of his gun bar- rel. But then even that has a d-awback. He's afraid the ring- necks will fly into the funnel. Enyway we're looking forward to some tall doings this Fall unless those dern thorns tickle the rab- bits to death. Always forgive a woman who swears she has never been kissed— she has good reason for swearing. Uptown Hubby: “You never tell me what you're going to buy. Don’t I get any voice in the buying?” Wifey: “Yes, my love, you get the invoice.” A young lady, telephoning a mu- sic store, was connected by mistake with a garage. “Do you have Two Red Lips and Seven Kisses”? “No,” answered the garage man, “but we have two cats and seven kittens.” “Is that a record?” “Well,” answered the garage man “we think it is” vd rw i !
