Mrs. Annie Zellers, St. Anne's Home ang Mrs. Esther Westaler, of Elizabethtown, both died shortly after reaching their 100th milestone. ede JUMPING THE GUN The potats situation in the United States is developing into a muddle. In order to keep the price high as an encourazement to growers, Uncle Sam goes into the market, buys and stores many potatoes. Last year some farmers re-bought petatoes for 30 cents for which they received | kindly $2.28 per bushel. This vear there was » good crop and the same effort is being made to |! keep the price high. To make mat- ters werse Canada is shipping car- | load upon carload into the New England States, paying a duty of 97.5 per 105 ibs. and selling them at $235 per 160 Ibs. while Maine $3.25 per 100 Ibs. Canada can ship 3.500,000 bushels at 37.5 per 100 Ibs. then the duty doubles. It is doubtful if the higher barrier will stop their shipments. er A ree CHRISTMAS SEALS There appears on szle the an- nual Christinas seals. announcing the approach of the heliday sea- son and remindin 1s that it is for better give than to receive.
