| Of all the problems which lives
stock farmers face during the win-
ter, one of the most annoying is the
task of preventing ice from’ coat-
| ing the surface of their. stock tanks.
An adequate year-round water
supply is essential to enable dairy
| cows to continue top milk produc-
| tion and to maintain economical
| gains on beef caitle and hogs. A
pressure water system will do the
{
|
i job most of the year, but what about
| those freezing months farmers now
are facing?
The following results of tests con-
ducted by Purdue university help in
approaching the problem: There is

|
|

i water for stock; the maintenance of
an ice-free drinking hole is suffi-
cient; water under pressure elimi-
ates the necessity of having large
capacity storage tanks.
Given these findings, agricultural
| engineers have turned to electricity
as a means of overcoming winter
stock tank worries. Research has
shown that electric heaters, with
wattages rated as low as 300, are
capable of keeping ice-free holes
open in small tanks without diffi-
culty. Among newly developed elec-
tric stock tank heaters, operating at
low cost, is a device which is de-
signed to float on the surface of the
water. It consists of a bollow metal
disk, encircled by a heating ele-
ment and containing a thermostat.
Tests show that it can keep a rec-
ommended drinking hole open in
temperatures far below zero.

RAY BRUBAKER AT
CALVARY BIBLE SCHOOL
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brubaker fromy
Chicago, Ill. will be guests of Cal-
vary Bible Church, New Haven and
Henry Sts. on Sunday morning at
10:30. Mr. Brubaker will speak of
the work into which the Lord has
recently called he and his wife.
Pastor Summy while in Chicago re-
cently was privileged to hear of
this new type of ministry from Mr.
Brubaker. He leaves a good posi-
tion as chief news editor of the
Radio Station of Moody Bible In-
stitute to enter the field of highway
evangelism by means of a trailer
ministry. The trailer will be so
constructed that the rear end can
be lowered thus providing a pulpit
from which to preach. It is plan-
ned that they will have the trailer
for exhibition. Mr. Brubaker's
home is in Florin, we believe his
many friends will want to meet him,
and his wife and hear more of this
new type of home Missionary work.
