MAN GETS SIX MONTHS
FOR STEALING KIN'S GUN
Charles Shroy, thirty-six,
Bainbridge, pleaded guilty to burg-
lary charges and was jailed for six
months and fined $100 and costs.
Prosecution was brought by his
brother-in-law, John Demmy, Bain-
bridge Rl, who accused Shroy of
stealing a 16 gauge pump gun,
valued at $20, from his home on
Oct. 12.

Thomas on November 8, 1946. Five
thousand nautical cowboys have
been recruited from all the states
in the Union as well as Canada.
Their duties on board ship consist
of feeding watering, and otherwise
caring for the 200,000 animals be-
ing shipped this year.
The qualification desirable for
this position are the ability to han-
dle animals and the desire to per-
sonally do something in a positive
censtructive way to aid the world
‘situation. Men of good moral and
ethical ideals who will be a tribute
to their country and the program
of which they are a part will be
welcomed and respected by the
people of Europe.

CALVIN BAKER SHOT A
167-POUND BLACK BEAR
Mr. Calvin Baker, aged twenty,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob G. Ba-
ker, of Rapho township, was one
of a gang of fourteen who hunted
bear in Potter County. On the first
day Calvin spied a Mr. Bear in his
den at a distance’ of less than a
dozen steps. As the bear emerged
from his den Calvin stopped him
cold with a .35 calibre bullet be-
tween the eyes. The animal hog
dressed 167 pounds. This young
man is out of the service but has
not as yet been discharged.

Mrs. Laura M. Garber, sixty-five,
wife of J. Hoffman Garber, Eliza-
tethtown, died Sunday at her home
after a lingering illness. She was
a daughter of the late S. N. and
Elizabeth Mumma, and was a mem-
ber of Mount Calvary Church Eliza-
bethtown. Besides her husband,
