The Corn Club
One hundred and thirty-seven
boys and girls, out of 184 enrolled
a year ago, completed their full
work as members of the 4-H. Corn
Club which is sponsored by the
Lancaster Chamber of Commerce
and received certificates of merit
at the 15th annual Round-up here
on Saturday.
Each was required to plant, cul-
tivate and harvest a special half-
acre plot of corn last year, prepare
a report on the crop and finally
exhibit a ten-ear sample of the best
corn at the annual Roundup. Near-
ly 1,400 ears were on display.
Paul Eugene Hollinger, of Man-
heim R2, captured first prize of $5
as the best judge of corn and pota-
toes at the contest held in the
morning, prior to the noon lunch-
eon and afternoon program.
Second prize of $4 went to Jeanne
Hess, Mt. Joy R1; third prize, $3. to
Robert Hess, Strausburg R1; and
fourth, $2, to Dorothy Hostetter,
Manheim R2. Dollar awards went
to other contest winners who placed
in the following order:
