The amusements will also be on the lot opposite this factory just on Mount Joy St. stop in at the Jack Horner Shoe Store this week-end and guess the number of corn kernels displayed in a bowl in their show window. There is no obligation to buy. Just register your name, address and number guess. The person guessing the nearest correct number of kernels will receive a $25.00 War Bond. (Turn to page 8) v POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT State Policeman Oreszko Tuesday was investigating a hit-run accident reported by George Shriver, Sa- lunga which occurred on Road 36001 in Rapho township, one half mile north of Manheim, at 8:20 p. m. ‘Monday. Shriver told police he was driving west when his car was side- swiped by an auto headed in the opposite direction, causing about No one was injured and the driver of the other car failed to stop, Shriver said. Chamber of Commerce Farm Show Meeting Was Decided Success Monday The second sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, annual Farm-Town meeting, local was held Monday evening in the high school auditorium with approximately one hundred fifty rural and urban peo- ple in the attendance. The program opened with the playing of the Star Spangled Ban- ner by the Mt. Joy School Band under the direction of Mr, H. B. Baughey. Two banjo selections and an ac- cordion solo, by members of the 4-H Club, were musical features of the program. Mr. John Booth introduced the speaker, Mr. Miles Horst, of Pal- myra, who stressed the advisability of someone taking charge of farm labor for 1943, so that the present shortage will be measurably reliev- ed. President Booth gave a short talk on the Chamber of Commerce med- als which will be awarded for showmanship to the best 4-H club member during the farm show this week. Since the State Show has been cancelled for the duration of the war, these steers will go on feed for the District Baby Show held at the Lancaster Stock Yards each December. The total number of steer calves needed will be selected and purchased by a purchasing committee and delivered to a central location, then all club members enrolled will be notified to come to this location and draw for their steer. Calves of uniform type and quality will be selected. The 83= acre farm was bought by John Cas= sel, Penn Township. Improvements included a 2% story frame house, a brick and frame slated bank barn, tobacco sheds, corn barn, pig sty, pump house, silo and other buildings. The place adjoins lands of John Miller. William Heisey, John Cassel and Martin Cross. The farm was offered by Howard S. Nissley and Enos Nissley for the estate of Annie Nissley, deceased.
