IMPROVED RED CLOVER
Farmers who wish to be more
sure of a good crop of red clover
in 1943 and who wish to get maxi-
mum yields of hay can now sow
certain strains of medium red
clover. Those from Berks, Lan-
caster, Franklin and Indiana
counties have given consistent in-
creases. in yield of hay in tests at
the Pennsylvania State College.

AT PAUL GARBER'S FRIDAY
As interesting poultry meeting
will be held at the farm of Paul
Garber, near Elizabethtown, Friday
afternoon, March 6th, at 2 o'clock.
C. O. Dossin, Poultry Extension
Department, State College, will dis-
cuss early care and feeding of chicks.
Tred Grau, also from State College,
will discuss the value of a good
poultry range and cutting feed costs
for producing better birds. These
discussions will be illustrated by
pictures in natural color.

PATRONAGE DIVIDEND
WILL BE RETURNED
A patronage dividend, represent-
ing 3.4 per cent. and totaling $52,000
will be returned Apr. 15 to the more
than 4,000 active members of the
Eastern States Farmers Exchange in
Lancaster county, J. R. Myers, of
Landisville, field representative in
this area, announced a few days ago.
He reported total purchases through
the cooperative in 1941 exceeded
$1,500,000 in this county.

4-H VICTORY PROGRAM
4-H Club members will help in-
crease the production of the prod-
ucts asked for by “Uncle Sam,” ac-
cording to State 4-H Club Leaders.
4-H pig club members will be
urged to fatten two or more pigs
this year, and others will take over
the home garden. More baby
chicks will be reared by 4-H Clubs,
and clubs will help alleviate the
labor shortage whereever it may
occur,

FOLKS IN BRITAIN SURE
MUST BE VERY HUNGRY
From reports such as these it
appears the war is “beginning to
tell” on people in Britain. Meat
must be scarce in London and as
a substitute they are eating spar-
rows, starlings, crows, larks, cur-
lews and even swan. Sparrows sell
frem 12 to 20 cents each, larks
10c and starling 7c.

VICTORY 4-H CLUBS
The 4-H boys and girls of one
county in Pennsylvania have
adopted this slogan, “Produce, Pro-
cess and Preserve Farm Products
for Victory.” In another county
the 4-H Club members have
pledged their support and are all
set to go on the scrap iron cam-
paign set up by their County War
Board. The club leaders are work-
ng with the members on a farm-
to-farm collection of scrap metal,
according to 4-H Club leaders.
