caped death when his car scraped
the foliage in passing, throwing up
a shower of sparks. Traffic was
held up for some time until a
Pennsylvania Power and Light
crew repaired the damage.
A Barn Destroyed
The barn of Clayton Gibble, Mil-
ton Grove blacksmith and farmer,
| was destroyed by fire started when
lightning struck the roof at 5:30
p. m. Martin Heisey, chief of the
Rheems Fire Company, estimated
damage at about $2,500.
Consumed in the barn were two
hogs and about 150 chickens, wheat
from three and one-half acres, hay,
barley and a number of farm im-
plements. Gibble’s horse was led
to safety.
Rheems firemen were first on
the scene, followed by Elizabethtown
and Mount Joy companies. Too
late to save the barn, they sprink-
the dwelling house
upon which embers were falling.
Gibble, who has been ill recent-
ly, suffered shock and was treated
by a physician. He said the loss
was partly covered by insurance.
