the Pennsylvania Farm Show—
January 16 to 20—for 8,161 cash
awards totaling $42,524.
Every member of the farm fam-
ily can compete as the 116-page
premium list offers classes for all
farm products and for every phase
of farm life from the midfield to
the farm kitchen and the rural
school.
Cash awards offered in the sev-
eral departments of the Show
total as follows:
Horses, open, $3,470.
Sheep, open $2,673; 4-H Clubs,
$365.

A CHIMNEY FIRE
The Friendship Fire company ex-
tinguished a chimney fire at an
inn operated by E. H. Crowley,
on the Harrisburg pike, about one-
quarter mile west of Florin, at
8:15 p. m. Wednesday. Fire Chief
Ray Myers said there was no
damage.

etta street, giving 480 boys and
girls an unexpected vacation. Par-
titions in the front part of the
first floor facing Marietta street
were damaged.
The blaze was discovered at
6:45 A. M. by the school janitor,
Harry Kuhn. The flames started
near the coal bin in the front
part of the basement and spread
through the front basement par-
titions to the walls of the first
floor and second, floor classrooms.
Friendship Fire company checked
the flames before they reached
other parts of the building.
Damage in the front classrooms
was mainly caused by smoke and
water. School supplies, stored in
the front part of the building,
also were damaged, including tables,
crayons, paper, pencils and a few
books.
The building is of brick con-
struction and houses the boro
pupils of grades one to eight in-
clusive in fourteen classrooms.
There was no school in the
building Monday but studies were
resumed Tuesday in all but the
First Grade.
The extent of the damage has
not as yet been ascertained.
Lane. Junction Fire
Fire broke out in the kitchen
on the farm of Henry M. Cassel
near Lancaster Junction, damag-
ing the building and contents to
the extent of about $250. It
started when an oil stove was
lighted.

GUILTY CONSCIENCE WORRY
About ten days ago the home
of Cecil Hart, Mountville, was en-
tered and $20 stolen. Returning
from a shopping trip he found
two $5 bills under the door mat.
The life's savings of $1,650 hid-
den in a bureau at the home of
Frank Haas, Marietta, a week ago,
were stolen. Wednesday he re-
ceived a package by mail which
contained $1,425 of the money. He
immediately put it in the bank.
Conscience trouble in all likeli-
hood, caused the return of the
money by the thieves.

NO. 8 HOLDS MEETING
Farm Women’s Society No. 8,
met at the home of Mrs. Abner
Risser, Bainbridge, with Mrs. Risser
and Miss Ada Kraybill as hostesses.
A memorial service was held for
Mrs. Paris Engle, of Bainbridge,
who died recently. Mrs. Ed. H.
Gish read a poem. Harry Frank,
of Maytown, sounded taps. The
program was given by Miss Anna
Kemp, of State College and Miss
Anna Forbes, of Lancaster. Miss
Fannie Heisey read Dickens Christ-
mas Carol.
The next meeting will be on
Tuesday, January 10, at the home
of Mrs. Norman Garber, in this
place. This will be a “Family”
meeting.

A LANDISVILLE PROPERTY
SOLD AT PUBLIC SALE
A two-story brick dwelling house
at Landisville was sold for $5250
public sale Wednesday to Martin
E. Musser, was sold pursuant to
an order of the Court of Com-
mon Pleas and brought $1,750
more than it could have been sold
at a private sale recently.
The Liquidating trustees of cer-
tain assets of the Lancaster Trust
company received a bid of $3,500
for the property some time ago,
but another offer of $4,000 was
filed. The court granted the re-
quest. of the liquidating trustees
for a public sale because of the
higher bid.

CAST CHRISTMAS EVE
On Saturday evening at 7:30
o'clock, the choir of Trinity Lu-
theran Church will render a 15-
minute recital of Christmas music

Clarence Kitt, forty-three, EI-
