Rural Air
Mail Service
Thru Here
Rural air mail service between
Philadelphia and Pittsburg, with
deliveries and, pickup at 24 com-
munities including Lancaster, Co-
lumbia, West Chester and Coates-
ville, will be instituted shortly as
one of four “rural” non-stop routes
planned as experiments by the
Post Office Department.
A request in Washington yester-
day for bids on the four proposed
routes disclosed the plans for the

new service, which will revolu-
tionize U. S. Air Mail service if
expanded generally.
Just how the mail will be
picked up and delivered while in
flight will be left to the discretion
of the airlines, provided only that
the plan is approved by the Bu-
reau of Air Commerce. Invitations
for bids, which will be opened on
Sept. 15, were sent to all air lines.

JOHN ABRAM KREIDER
John Abram Kreider, infant son of
Abram and Lillian S. Myers Kreid-
er, of Mount Joy R. D., near Risser’s
Mill, died of complications at 4:30 p.
m. Wednesday. He is survived by
the parents and three sisters, Estella,
Betty and Anna Katherine and his
maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
John S. Myers of Mount Joy. The
funeral will be held from the home
at 2 p. m. Thursday (today) with in-
terment in the Crossroads cemetery,
Florin,

FRANK HOUGENDOBLER
Frank Hougendobler, aged 84
years, formerly of this place, died at
Philadelphia of a complication of
diseases.
Deceased was a member of the I.
0. O. F. Lodge of this place, and
was one of its oldest members.
One son, Charles A. of Philadel-
phia, survives as do two grandchil-
dren and one great grandchild.
Funeral will be held on Friday
noon (12 M.) at the Sheetz Funeral
Home with interment in the Mount
Joy cemetery.
MRS. SALLIE SHICKLEY
Mrs. Sallie Shickley, seventy-
eight, widow of Amos Shickley,
died of complications Sunday even-
ing at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Lillian Brown, 28. N. Jacob
St., this plcae. She was a daughter
of the late Stephen and Anna
Dravenstadt.
Besides her daughter, she is sur-
vived by one brother, Frank Drav-
enstadt, and one grandson, Irvin
Fritz, both of town.
Services were held at 2 p. m. Wed
at the home of the daughter with
interment in the Henry Eberle
cemetery.

HARRY E. FORREY
Harry E. Forrey, seventy, retired
farmer, died at his home, Columbia
R. D. 2, West Hempfield township,
Tuesday, of a complication of di-
seases. He was in ill health since
last May. Forrey was the son of
the late Jacob C. and Elizabeth
Newcomer Eshleman Forrey. The
following brothers and sisters sur-
vive: May, Emma, Alice and Jacob,
all at home; Mrs. A. H. Greider,
of Landisville; Mrs. Anna Metz-
ger of Gap and John Forrey, of
Manor township.
Services will be held Thursday
at Columbia, with interment in
the Mountville cemetery.

HERBERT J. STAMBAUGH
Herbert J. Stambaugh, sixty-five,
of 350 Donegal Springs road, died of
complications at his home at 1:40 p.
m. Wednesday. He was the son of
Simon Stambaugh and the late
Amanda Stambaugh.
He was retired as railroad mail
clerk five years ago. He was a mem-
ber of the Trinity Lutheran church
the Free and Accepted Masons of
which he was past master, the Har-
risburg Consistory, Knights of the
Mystic Shrine. and the Friendship
Fire company, No. 1, He also was
vice president of the Henry Eberle
Cemetery association.
He is survived by his wife, who

Since Monday fat dry-fed steers
have been in light supply but
closing prices for the week are
only on a steady basis, compared
to a week ago. Grass fat steers
are selling at prices considered
steady with last week's close.
Good quality grass fat heifers
and heiferettes slow, and quarter
lower for the week.
Bulls have been in liberal re-
ceipts all of the week and found
slow sale, at 25 lower.
Cows of all grades were in light
demand, prices now are 25 to 30
lower. Fat cows showing the most
decline.
Stockers and feeders in liberal
supply, demand slow this A. M.
Few sales reported all grades
selling steady.
Calves in light run, today, very
little done in this division, a few
sales reported at steady prices,
from 11.00 to 11.50.
Hogs in liberal supply, demand
slow. Local hogs are selling steady
at 925 to 9.75. Western from
10.25 to 10.35.
Lambs in light run, demand slow,
no sales reported, salesmen expect
will sell steady at prices from 9.00
to 9.50.
Receipts: 1103 cattle, 40 calves,
135 hogs.
