NEW LAW PERMITS CHARGE
FOR PACKING, DELIVERY TO
OFFICE AND MAY NOT
BE SOLD
Conditions governing the distri-
bution of forest tree seedlings and
transplants were announced today
by the Department of Forests and
Waters. The conditions imposed
are in accord with the act passed
at the last session of the General
Assembly which permits sale at a
price to cover the cost of packing
and delivery to the post office or
texpress office at the nursery. The
rate charged is $2.00 a thousand
ifor seedlings and $5.00 for trans-
plants.
| Three other conditions stressed by
the Department are as follows:
1. The trees must be planted in
Pennsylvania for wood production
or watershed protection.
2. The trees must not be offer-
ed for sale or sold or removed from
the land until they are large enough
for use as wood products. The act
provides that if they are sold for
ornamental purposes the applicant
shall be liable to a penalty of three
times the value of the trees sold.
3. The planter
trees as far as possible
grazing and trespassing.
The trees must be planted in ac-
cordance with the most practical
modern methods. Complete planting
instructions will be supplied by the
Department of Forests and Waters.
from fire,

The minimum shipment will con-
sist of 1000 trees, and the minimum
of any one kind will be 500 trees.
This will enable forest tree planters
to set out as small a tract as three-
fifths of an acre by planting two
kinds of trees in a mixture 5 by 5
feet apart, and a full acre if the
trees are spaced 6 by 6 feet apart.
The department cannot
