Mrs. Ed Steigerwald of Paoli, was
a Tuesday visitor to her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Geyer.
The Harvest Home Services held
at Cross Roads Church on Saturday
were very largely attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bates and son
Robert of Shiremanstown spent Sun-
day here the guest of relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Zeager of
Pittsburgh, are here on a visit to Mr.
William Hamilton and family.
Mr. Norman Tyson and family of

with the family of John Martin.
Messrs. Paul Greenawalt, Henry
Breneman, Henry Shelly and Arthur

The festival held in the park on
Saturday evening, under the auspices
of the Florin cemetery association
was a grand success.
Misses Anna and Stella Haldeman,
Malinda Myers, Anna Reese and Mr.
Clarence Musselman attended the
United Brethren Camp at Mt. Gretna
on Sunday. }
Mr. Charles Stark of this place has
opened an up-to-date garage and
accessory store in the former Welfley
garage building, now owned by Mr.
J. D. Easton.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bates and son
Frederick, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bates
and sons Ralph and Raymond of
Shiremanstown spent a few days
with relatives and friends.

Damaged Replica of Old Vessel, It
Is Believed, Can Be Repaired
by Sailors.
Percy C. Madeira, Philadelphia coal
magnate, has joined the ranks of those
who have taken up the fad of collect
ing ship models. Madeira’s experience
with the first model he bought, a
replica of the American clipper ship
Southern Cross, was an interesting
one. according to the New York Sun.
This miniature ship, 30 Inches long
the coal operator obtained recently
through an agent at Nantucket, who
considered the purchaser lucky fin
getting a genuine model at a reason
able figure.
The model, with all masts and other
spars in place and with rigging.
blocks, boats, ete., as they should be,
was a handsome picture when it was
packed for shipment at Nantucket,
But when the fragile model reached
Madeira’s home it came out of the
packing case nearly wrecked. It had
been poorly packed and roughly han-
dled on the trip. Madeira looked at
the mass of broken spars and wreckage
and said things about the packer and
also the agent at Nantucket. He fig-
ared the model little better than
matchwood and that it never could be
repaired.
He reckoned, however, without the
United States navy. He happened to
tell his troubles to a naval officer sta-
tioned at League islana and
afterward the officer rang the coal

Damage Case Dropped.
At the instigation of Marietta boro
Council, the case of John H. Keener,
of Maytown, vs. Frank W. Conrad,
of Marietta, was withdrawn. When
it was learned that Mr. Keener had
paid Conrad $340 in addition to the
physician’s bill, council decided that
he had been sufficiently fined.
