After being in session
{for more than a week the annual con-
{ference of fhe Church of the Breth-
|ren adjourned at noon Wednesday.
|The conference has been called “the
{most successful in the history of the
| denomination.”
| Among the important actions tak-
{en were the following:
Refusal to put further bans on
jstyles of clothing to be worn.
Refusal to provide a liturgy or set
{forms for the services.
Consideration of the
{ment of a large university.
The appointment of a committee
to prepare plans for the establish-
ent of a large hospital and training

525 ‘official delegates from congrega-
tions, and by fifty-five of the stand-
ing committee, in addition to thou-
sands of visitors. On no day are the
visitors said to have numbered fewer
than 5,000 and on Sunday they are
reported to have numbered more
than 40,000,
Trouble was experienced in feed-
ing the large crowds, especially on
Sunday, when 840 gallons of ice
cream were needed to furnish desert
{at the meals. The cafeteria reports
{having used on an average eighty-
{five dozen eggs and 100 pounds of
beefsteak for breakfast each day.
It fed only a comparatively small
part of the erowd.
[ Several special trains were run
{from Harrisburg to the far West for
the accommodation of the crowds.

Barn Struck by Lightning
The barn belonging to what was
known as the old Witman farm, lo-
cated near White Oak, was entirely
(destroyed by fire last Saturday after-
[oon when it was struck by lightning

Auto Mishaps
The large touring car of Peter S.
Brubaker was slightly damaged when
it was being towed into his garage.
It collided with a post. The auto-
mobile of 0. W. McElroy, manager
of the Lancaster Golde Clothe Shop,
at Lancaster, was damaged Sunday
evening on the Harrisburg road near
Mount Joy, when a wheel broke away
from a passing car and hit McElroy’s
machine. The fender was badly bat-
tered.

A bank messenger was robbed of
$10,000 in one of Philadelphia’s
business districts on Monday.
