Newcomer one, the weather man kind. This brought an crowd of buyers and as a result there were more people in attend- ance at this sale than any we can re call for years. It wag the opening of Mr. New- comer's spacious new repository, just recently erected, and he now has the largest implement warehouse in this county. Traction and gasoline engines, hay tedders, manure spreaders, washing machimes, seed drills, in fact all kinds of machinery was in operation amd the scene surely resembled a county fair. . A very large lot of wagons, imple- waents, etc, were disposed of and #1 in all this was the biggest and, most successful sale ever held by Mr Newcomer. . a A LADY'S MISFORTUNE Broke Her Leg Near the Knee Climb- ing Over a Wire Fence “Mrs. John Geib, who formerly lived | in_ the Brubaker property on Easl| Main street but lately moved to Bridgeport, at the northeastern bor-; ough limits, met with an acciden! Monday evening that will confine he: to the house for some time. She was in the act of climbing ov- er a wire fence. Just as she was about to jump off the fence, her foot caught on a guy wire on a post and she was thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining a fracture of the right leg a few inches below the knee, Dr. W. M. Thome of this place, re- duced the fracture. mrad ovs Cows and Shoats On Friday, April 3, Mr. C. 8. Frank will offer a lot of live stock at public sale at the Washington House stables in this place. The lot in- clodes some very good cows and 76 head of extra fine homeraised shoats ranging’ from sucking pigs to shoats weighing 125 1bs. sale — 4 for them to do anything. The flames made such rapid progress that the live stock perished in-their stalls These included sixteen cows, four hei- fers, two bulls, nine hogs and six horses. All the farming implements, harne together with hay, straw nd corn were consumed, together with two acres of tobacco that had been stripped and was ready for the market. What saved the house and tobaceo shed from being destroyed was the fact that a strong wind from the morth prevailed at the time and the flames were blown in another di- rection. When daylight came the work of destruction was complete and where one of the finest barns in the county stood but a few hours before wag nothing but a smouldering mass ruins. Hundreds of people went to the place to see the ruins, Mr. Kreider does not have lightest idea to how the fire tarted, but it nay have been the work of an incendiary or it is possi- ble that a tramp lodger accidentally set it on fire. The loss will be very heavy and while Mr, Kreider carries insurance in two companies, it will not cover the loss by any means.
